Radio Opaque lesion

I had my wisdom teeth out about 15 years ago and just had my first panoramic xray of my mouth. My dentist found a Radio Opaque lesion where my wisdom tooth was on my lower left area. He thought it might be a retained root tip or an artifact, but he said it looked a little big. he has refered my to an oral surgeon to review, but I dont see him til next week. Any ideas what it could be if it is not one of those? Ideas?

hey, it'd be too hard to guess without seeing the xray, it could be a number of things.
the most likely would be a root tip, it all depends on how the extraction went at the time. if it was not a digital xray, then it could even be a developmental thing.
don't worry about it anyway, the oral surgeon is the expert there.

Thanks for the reply. It is literally where the wisdom tooth hole was.My regular dentist thinks it is too big for a root, but it has been so long ago, he can't be sure. Just wanted to see what else it could be if not that.

    Thanks!

Hi there, these areas are common on xrays and are usually not significant. It is important that you get it checked out though and see the oral surgeon. Dont worry, the majority need no treatment at all.
