I am thinking about buying a car, nothing flash, i have set myself a limit of 1500 euro. Was looking for something from around 99-02. On average how many miles should a car of this age have clocked up.

All depends really on the previous owner... I would say on average you would be looking at the 90-100k mark in my opinion

At that end of the market ignore mileage. Buy on condition, length of NCT, service history etc. A car with 50k miles can be in worse condition than a car with 150k. All depends on its use and how it was looked after. Getting a mechanic you know and trust to give it a once over is a good idea.

12K miles seems to be the accepted annual average - but it depends on the type of car. A suburban family's second car isn't as likely to be doing an average of 30 miles a day. But it could have been doing lots of journeys in start/stop traffic with a cold engine - so a low mileage example isn't automatically a good thing.
