I noticed this morning that my iPhone has a crack at the back going from the middle of where the charger connects into it. I'd say its about an inch long.
I got the phone back in April from Vodafone.

Just wondering if it has happened to anyone else and if its worth going back to the shop with it? I'm guessing they might just put it down to wear and tear?

Oh cool thanks. Do you think I should go back to the vodafone shop with it or do I need to go direct to Apple?

they will give you a loan of a ****ty nokia or something while your phone is away getting repaired, which is a bummer!

Apple actually have an ARS(advanced repair service) it costs like 50euro...they send you a NEW iphone, and you send back your old one.

that way your not without an iphone for any period of time! :)

And only if you insist on having a new iPhone for the 2 days or so they take to verify yours is broken - and send you a replacement.

If you just give their courier yours and use a spare for a day or two it costs nothing.

Great thanks....... would I still be able to get that if I go back to the shop or do you have to go direct to Apple to get that?
A stupid question coming - but if I get a new iPhone can you back up everything on the current phone (inc apps) on iTunes and then transfer them onto the new phone or would I be starting from scratch again?

you have to go direct to Apple

Yep you just back up your old phone, then sync the new one and everything is transferred

Don't know how fast they are in practice with this option, but I was told if I took this option, I would receive my replacement unit 'within 10 days'.

Direct to Apple. Check your support availability here, or call them direct - number here.

If you backup AND sync everything you want keep you should be fine. All your messages, contacts, app settings etc should be restored.

I've used the Apple return system twice - 2 days first time - 4 days the second time (and that was only because they got the address wrong).

Thanks...... off on hols next week so might just wait until I get back - want to have the iPhone with me for checking mail etc. It doesnt look like the crack will get much worse or cause any actual operating issues. Checked the warranty online there and it says the service warranty is valid until April 2011 so have plenty of time.
