Need new runners because of blisters

    Ok,
I have been on about this before. I have a chronic problem with blisters.
I have orthodics for another problem and have to wear them. I am convinced the orthodics are causing the blisters. Take them out - I don't get them as bad.

That said, when I put my orthodics in my shoes every day - no problem. When I put them in my rugby boots - not much of a problem. When I put them in my asics runners big problem. I also got a special soft spongy surface put on the orthodics last year for sports use. I got the orthodics 3 years ago so I don't think it's worth my while going back at this stage.

Bottom line, I want to get a decent pair of runners where the staff will understand where I am coming from.

Can you recommend a shop and a brand of runners?
    Thanks

I find nike are cut with a bit more room which might be what you need to accommodate the orthoses?

I had the same problem last year when I started running. I also have Orthodics and used to get severe blisters under my arch after about 5 miles or so. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Brooks GTS10 after trying on nike, aasics etc. So far I haven't had a single blister and last week ran the Achill Half Marathon and even knocked 7 minutes off my previous year.

Get to your nearest specialist running shop and get sorted. It will be the best money ever spent.

Forgot to mention, I run in the Brooks runners without my Orthodics.

Buy a bottle of methylated spirits, and some cotton balls.

A few times a day rub the spirits via the cotton balls on the soles of your feet. do this for 2-3 weeks and it will form a film which will harden the skin and you will not have anymore blisters.. worked for all my athletes.

Also, make sure your wearing skin fitted, light weight, proper fitting performance socks...friction is a big cause of blisters.

    Thanks.

If it's the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10 you're talking about, I got mine in Runways on Parnell Street.

I got mine in Runways, Parnell St. aswell. But try on different brands and see what works for you. I also went up half a size from what I was previously wearing. Also the previous advice about good running socks is correct.

Same here - normally a 7, had to go to a 7.5 in these.

Don't discount the power of whacking a load of vaseline on affected areas pre run. That and the methylated spirits (as above) will go a long way to sorting you out.

vaseline, talc, meth spirits, tape blister hotspots, tight fitting socks.... all work for stopping blisters even if your shoes are ill fitting or you've been running in water/bog for a prolonged period of time :)

also if your getting blisters in wet shoes, say due to rain, a pair of waterproof socks are worth there weight in gold.
