My Girlfriend is coming back from Spain tomorrow with our newborn baby and I'm trying t get the house ready. She's been in Spain for the last few months and I've been here doing work on the house. I've slabbed, insulated, plastered and painted the whole house magnolia. I left the flooring last because the work was so messy didnt want to muck up the new floor.

Can anyone give me some advice on:

What colour wooden flooring to get
    Laminate V solid/semi solid
    Where to buy the flooring

    Thanks

semi solid definitely looks nicer than laminate, i guess it depends on your budget which you go for. and if u need it all today you might be stuck because i know some places would order in the amount for you and not have it all on the shop floor.

i have wider size 'planks' in my house with a v groove that makes it look like floorboards, in a dark wood, looks lovely. got it from a friends shop in kildare.
its definitely much better than carpet if you have a small child in the house, i had carpet when my little boy was born, but 2 years later it was disgusting dirty and smelly, so def stick with a nice easy to clean surface!!

i cant advise on places to get it from, or colours, its really up to you on that matter- i think the darker woods suit a more modern place , it looks really smart, and the oak colours go with a more country style home- they would brighten up the place too, but you dont want to go too bland with pale walls and pale floors.

dont know if thats any help!!

I definitely agree pearljamfan on the dark floor. Especially when the walls are magnolia, you want to create a contrast. You could try a walnut finish but in semi solid/solid it can be hard to keep as they can scratch quite easily and the scratches show up. You could also have a look at oak flooring. Still looks very smart and isn't as dark as the walnut, yet you still achieve the contrasting look.

    Hope this helps!

Get the best you can afford, hopefully its going to be down a long time and laminate isn't going to look amazing for too long. Dark colour is nice and with magnolia you will want something a bit darkish, but remember that dark shows the dust.....:D

Edit: Sorry the panic will be over now! Did you get it done?

Got the floor done. Went for a Red Oak, thought that the darker floor were too dark.
