I started working out with a class on monday and there is another class on this evening. My legs and arms have been very stiff and sore the last 2 days. I pushed myself quite hard for the first class, it has been the first time i have moved in months. What should i do before this evenings class, or should i wait until the pain subsides?

I aint no expert and the lads here are better placed to advise but if im sore the days after a heavy workout i normally keep moving with a light circuit with weights and a jog\run\swim, i also alternate so sore upper doesnt stop me doing a heavy lower workout next day......gluten for punishment;)

A very good night sleep usually helps.

exercising again will help get rid of the pain. There's a good chance that most of the stiffness is just due to doing unfamiliar exercises, you'll get over it very quickly once you get through more sessions. If your class doesn't incorporate some form of warm-down at the end, take 10 minutes to do it yourself. Lightly jogging or even brisk walking will stave off the soreness

What you have is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. My advice to you would be to just suck it up and go to this evenings class. Just make sure you get a decent warm up in first and eat some protein afterwards. If you don't have access to handy protein, skimmed milk is a good one.

Do the class, it will get easier as you do the class and may come back tomorrow, but if you stay consistent it will go away.

Thanks everyone, I will go along tonight then. It is an hour long, so a lot for me to start off on but just what I need. Do you think it would be ok to take 2 nurofen beforehand to numb some of the pain?

I think that would be a bad idea. The pain will go as you move around probably more quickly than you expect. So 1) It will be a waste of 2 nurofen that could be used for something you might need it for and 2) taking anti-inflammatory painkillers for a bit of soreness is a very bad habit to be getting into.
