Passport Expiry Date Question.. Urgent

Okay, so I'm due to leave Ireland on July 12th (which is why this is urgent!) for Germany, and only just now have I discovered that my passport expires.. on August 21st! Everything I read say it's "suggested" to travel to Germany with 3-6 months remaining on your passport. I'd put my passport away safely when I got here and didn't even think to look at that before I booked my stuff. Didn't realize it was so close. I have the idea to renew my passport once I'm there..

So I have a couple questions.

    1) I'm not going back to my home country. This, combined with staying in Ireland so long, combined with a passport near to expire, does not seem like a good combination. Now, I don't need a proper visa for Germany as since I'm Canadian I get 90 days and can apply for longer once I'm there. Would that make a difference or am I sure to be sent back home?

    2) I was thinking, if I print off my passport renewal forms, fill them out, and bring them with me to the check-in to prove that I plan on renewing my passport as soon as I get there, would that give me a chance?

    3) Outside of all that, any idea what to expect in general? Any recommendations for what to bring with me to make my entry a bit smoother?

Any help (quickly!) would be massively appreciated. Can't believe I only noticed now :( Can't afford to not go!

The important date is not when you plan to travel but when you plan to travel back from Germany. You just need to leave the country by August 21st.

If you were flying in on Aug 19th with only a couple of days worth then I could see the problem, but with 6 weeks left on it I don't think it should be a problem.

A valid Canadian passport is required for Canadians intending to visit Germany. The passport must be valid for at least the expected duration of your stay in the country.

But I want to stay the 90 days or longer (apparently I can apply for other things once I'm actually there instead of having to get a visa beforehand, I love being Canadian sometimes), which is why I wanted to know if the passport renewal forms would help.

Anyway, anything else I should expect? I always get nervous about flying, I never know exactly what I'm supposed to bring or what they'll ask me for.

I do not believe Canadian citizens have to give proof of a return flight when entering the Shengen area (at least my Canadian friend did not have to when he came to Germany with me). So, as far as the border guards are concerned, you are entering Germany on 12th July with the intention of leaving by 21st August. If during your stay there you renew your passport, you can stay longer. I do not see any problems whatsoever.
