Brake Pads

Changed my brake pads today - '99 focus. Seemed to do all ok, but now the brakes seem very soft. have to press the peddle alot to stop, almost feels as if only rear brakes are working.

After I replaced pads and "pumped" the pedal till it was hard I left the lid off the brake fluid reservoir. would this cause a problem? could it be an air lock...

    Cheers

    Eoin

The pads need to bed into your disc. They'll be dodgy for a while till they are fully bedded in.

i doubt very much if its air in the braking system......but what i would suspect is that your brake discs are worn,,,,and your new brake are just bedding into the disc,,thats what leaving the brakes feeling spongy,,,,put your finger on the rim of the disc and if you feel a sharp lip then you should replace them....
