    hi

did anyone take pictures of a silver coloured Mercedes 190 1984 that was up for sale. It has a blue cloth interior and was parked over on the right hand side of the display area ( viewed as you come into the grounds from fortfield rd ).

I thought i had taken some of it but got distracted talking :(:(

if you could email them to me at bodonnell@vodafone.ie i would appreciate it greatly :D.

    thanks in advance

I had a look at that car, but didn't take any pics. It did look like a good one, but I remember thinking that it was heavily overpriced. I then got distracted by the orange 450SLC - now that was a nice car.

I took one photo of, it was a stunning car. Sent on to your email.

I have some pictures of it as I happen to own it, lots of them here. With regards to the price, thats the asking price and as always is open to negotiation, but its not your run of the mill 190E thats been hacked around for years, its quite nice really! Take a look at some of the links below for prices of some comparable cars and its in the right ballpark, actually looks cheap towards some, and in my unbiased opinion mine is probably nicer :D

It was actually for sale through Cheshire Classic Benz early last year for £4750, which with VRT and travel comes to around €6,600, its since had a proper alarm and modern stereo fitted, new distributer cap, HT leads, oil pressure sender and brake lines.

www.charlesironside.co.uk - 1 lesser car for more money.

www.tristarmodernclassics.co.uk - 3 lesser cars for more money.

www.w124.co.uk - 1 car at an unpublished price but it'll be close to mine.

Now I know everyone has their own very fixed opinions on car prices but I think mine is a fair one given the car's condition. I accept that some will think its overpriced but they are unlikely to want a good 190E in the first place.

v240gltse/brendan - if you'd like to come and see it then PM me and we'll arrange something, even if its only tea and biscuits ;)

In fairness, that baby merc looks mint :)

I think the price is about right given the rarity of decent mercs... there might be loads that look as nice but with 100,000 more miles on them!

Thanks mike65, it is indeed the 2.0l engine, the 8 valve fuel injection version with 120bhp rather than the carb version that had 103bhp. Not as fast as a modern 2.0 but no slouch either.

Is it the ABS module, or maybe just a sensor? Even if it is the ABS module, there are reputable companies out there (UK / US) that refurbish them for a fraction of what the main $tealer would charge here

You won't make it through the NCT with your ABS light on...

I suppose pulling the binicle and unhooking the light having removed the ABS from the brakes..ah hell that sounds like too much work! :pac:

Light isnt working/is unhooked,i have no idea whats wrong though as the car came like that and passed its last test with out it working as it wasnt a test item, now it is though. Wonder would leaving the module and removing the sensors do? Or would the fact that the ABS unit is fitted but isnt working be a sticking point?

If ABS is fitted it must be working. And it's a bit tricky to hide the ABS box that's under the bonnet.

No light at at all? Unlikely, but the cheapest option is to start with the bulb on the dash. I'd guess that the light was on all the time and a previous owner whipped out the bulb.
(So, you put in a bulb and it's lit. Next up I'd clean up the sensors. Has worked for me several times in the past.)

Interesting to see the 190 now regarded as a classic. They still look modern even though they are now 25+ years old and were sold alongside the W123.

Yep, clean the sensors. That got mine working again....temporarily....but it allowed me to pinpoint which front wheel sensor was duff. I then found one on ebay.de for about 20EURO delivered. Been fine since.

Thanks lads, will try that,ABS definatly doesnt work as it will lock up the front wheels under hard braking and bulb does not light at all, hopefully its just blown,is it much of a job to get at it?

You need fine pullers to pull the clocks out. I made ones out of stainless bicycle spokes.
Look online for "Mercedes dash removal tool" to see what they look like.
Using the pullers, tug the instrument binnacle out a bit till you can get your hand behind, then reach in and loosen the speedo cable, then the whole thing should ease out, and you can see the bulbs in the circuit board.

If the ABS light comes back on when you start rolling, then its time for fault finding.
To clean a sensor, (may not work at all) remove it from the front axle housing (2 allen head screws), give it a cleaning with a rag, probably will have loads of metal particles on it. I also tried to clean the toothed ring which the sensor references. I used a screwdriver to scrape off ingrained dirt, hoovered that out, and then used a thin paintbrush and some meths or petrol (cant remember) to finally clean the teeth. That got my system working again temporarily.
Do it one sensor at a time.....so you might get an idea which side the problem is on. The rear sensors (1 or 2 depending on model) seem to give less trouble.
