There are two threads set up to damage the relationship between the various private sector workers esp in the retail sector. This thread is to asks what annoys you about the public sector workers espically those dealing directly with the public.

This is After Hours, I don't think these threads are going to damage much in the real world.

People that work in the public sector with their cushy little desk jobs. I know a few, and honestly, if I ever go on Faxcebook during the day, when these people are meant to be working, there'll nearly always be a couple of them online, having a great time using the chat facility or updating their status "OMG. Soooooooo bored at work....Roll on the weekend". Very maddeneing.
(I work in public sector, and no way would we get away with that where I work.)

Their overlong lunchbreaks and their pensions. Both of which I'm paying for but don't have them for myself.

I particularly hate that they seem to be followed by an annoying group of whingers who seem to do nothing these days but give out about public service workers.

Never got the whole public sector backlash. Sure, there are some dossers, but there are plently of dossers in all types of employment.

Plus, a few people seem to have a vendetta against them- they looked down on public sector workers during the boom times for taking job security over higher pay in the private sector, yet, now seem to think the public sector should be punished for their job security. Madness.

You'd think they were another species reading some of the BS here. FFS like.

What the hell are you on about? Nobody looked down on them!

I was many of the (hundreds) of unsuccessful candidates that sat the civil service exams back about 5 years ago in the RDS.

A lot of us private sector workers wanted to get into the PS, too. It's not all about money, but security. The financial worry I have keeps me up until this hour at night (and boards!) regularly. Job could be gone in the morning - and my world and that of my children - will fall apart.

To quote something I once heard: "Sit on your arse for 40 years and hang your hat on a pension".

    I'd absolutely love it.

Lots of people looked down on them. In college there was this big issue about people "only ending up in the public service". Many private sector workers were not shy about boasting about their great jobs and wages.

Now do note...I said many, not all.
