Hi everyone thanks for taking the time to read my thread. Ok so I was driving from Dublin to Waterford today, I over took another car on the motorway and was doing about 140kph, I was about to pull back into the left lane and slow down a bit when I saw a black unmarked jeep on an overpass with a man in a high vis jacket with something mounted on a tripod. Have I been caught speeding??

Could be a construction worker doing land survey work.

No..... now enjoy that feeling until you receive a letter in the post.

If it was a guard, it depends on them, they may be sound and just understand that you were overtaking and thus increased your speed. Then again, they may not and assume you were just speeding away. Its 50:50, you'll know in a few weeks, keep your fingers crossed until then.

Not all the time but alot of the time the tripod cameras are usually used near level with the road, again this is not all the time, but 90% of the times ive seen the guards use them it has been in the hard shoulder level with the road.

Normally cars speedos overestimate the speed also. So you may not have been a whole pile over... being honest no-one here could tell you if your gonna get points or not. No point worrying now at this stage, whats done is done.

I've seen cops on overpasses before but they're usually noticeable from the presence of a squad car / marked jeep or motorcycle. Haven't heard of the traffic corp using black jeeps before...

Thats what I thought because they usually are very noticeable , but if it wasn't for a high vis jacket I would have never copped him. Hope for the best. How long before the points come in door if I was a caught?

I've done survey work before, and its hilarious how many people brake like crazy when they see something on a tripod, near the side of the road.

I'd imagine this was a surveyor, i've never seen a speed camera on a tripod before.

I've seen Customs using black jeeps in the Waterford/Wexford Area.

I think they have something like 6 months to process it.

It doesnt really sound like it was a guard tbh; my experience of seeing guards on overpasses tends to be them hanging out of car windows or on bikes with the camera rather than using a tripod, but you just never know.

    black unmarked jeep

Your grand he wasn't checking for speed. If it was an unmarked Garda jeep it would most likely have more important things to be doing than checking for speeders.

Yes the TLC's they have are used for armed response, appear like commercial with heavy rear tint but are actually passenger.
