central heating burner, in attached garage or outside?

Hi guys,, , dont want to end up like those days in college where the burner was in the living room and the smell of oil throughout the house...
but im putting in the central heating shortly and wondering should i put the burner/unit outside altogether or keep it in the garage. . .

the garage is attached to the house, the door going from the house to the garage is an external door, (just like a back door)

the door from the garage leads to a hallway, where you have 3 other doors, one for going outside(back door). . second one going to the utility, and the third going to the kitchen and into the house. . .

Plumber reckons i shouldnt have any problems, and also suggests im likely to have less trouble with it been inside. . .

opinions, disaster stories, good experiences all welcome. . .
