iPhone on 3 network Problems

Anyone else having problems finding 3G network on iphone,
everytime I want to connect to internet I have to search networks and select the 3G network.

I was using an unlocked iPhone I had from 02 first so I taught I would buy an official "3" iPhone to stop this hassle and was told by the sales person that this would be fine and if there was the same issue I could return the phone, after calling back (from day two after the purchase) a month later I was told this was a known issue and I could not return the phone as I had used it and I should sell it on ebay...

    Best excuse....
"The problem is not with the network or with the phone but there is a fix and it will take 4 - 6 weeks." I asked what is it they are fixing if it is not the network or the phone and I was told "I dont know" this was a manager...

Hi. I had the same problem.

Spoke to their iPhone specialist who told me that there was a fix on the way.

He told me to turn airplane mode on and off again with automatic network selection and this has worked a charm.

Sounds like might work for you too?

    Hi.
Thanks for that, Yeah that works most of the time. It's just the fact that I explained I was buying the phone because I had this problem with an unlocked one and they told me I wouldn't have this issue with the new one.

Then a month later (last week) it is a known issue.

Did you call them ? How long are you having this problem.

I've been on a iPhone 3GS with Three since last September, unlocked & jailbroken from 02 PAYG.

Yes I do get Network Issues, but not the whole time, my gf has an 02 contract iphone and the 3g drops off her phone alot, at least she gets EDGE to fall back on.

Unfortunately with Three the phone will switch to 2g/vodafone if the 2g signal is stronger.

It is possible if you have a jailbroken iPhone to set the phone to 3G-ONLY (using ssh/telnet), but this isn't always convenient, i.e. if you are actually in a very weak 3G area its handy that your calls can come in.

On an non-unlocked iPhone I'd try to toggle off/on the '3G' switch in Settings > General > Network. This might get you back on the 3G a lot quicker than a full network search.

On an unlocked iPhone, I'd recommend getting SBSettings then you can toggle 3G quickly from anywhere on the phone.

I used to get network issues all the time on 3. Ended up switching back to o2 when they upped their data charges.

ah cool thanks. Three has no 3g where I am but every other network does. Im going back to o2 soon.

yup I am had to, for some reason making a custon ispw with snowbreez affected the official carrier unlock, so unltrasnow is the only way to get it to connect to a network. Im going to restore when the new spirit jailbreak comes out, that will sort it.

Doyler have you tried going into network settings and manually searching for 3G, you need to select 3 then go select 3G. The iPhone seems to default to GPRS(Vodafone)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

Yeah i played with it yesterday but ill do it now again, so im in my carrier list and its set to automatic and the phone is connected to '3', there is also o2, voda and 3(3g). I have selected 3(3g) and its connected with 3g with 1 bar, now it gave the message.

    "Network lost
Your selected cellular network is no longer available. You can choose a difference network in settings "

    Ideas ?

    Edit: just go no service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,690 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

You can just hit dismiss on that message. The 3 Network will only ever appear as 3 3G in carrier settings and it also should say 3 3G up where the signal bar is. When you select 3 3G in the carrier settings it may not appear up beside the signal bars straight away, come out of carrier setting and it should then appear.
If your getting the 3G signal it means it is there, your hacked up iphone is just having a problem holding onto is, an update to OS4 helped mine alot, it's been on 3G now for over 2 days without reverting back to voda.
If you've wifi on and not using it turn it off.

He only has 1 bar of signal when it does work, his problem isn't anything to do with having a "hacked up iphone" ;)

Ok ill leave it on 3(3g) and see how the signal holds. I wouldn't call it hacked up now lol Its on ios4 already.

ah now lol I get perfect signal from o2 everywhere I go with 3g all the time. Three just suck. Also unltrasnow just make the baseband allow any sim has nothing to do with affecting signal.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭stephenbrow

The problem is not that its a hacked iphone, its that the network dont have the correct settings, I had an unlocked iphone, and I taught maybe this is the reason for the issue and bought one from 3 only to have the same problem.
The unlocked phone works fine on meteor and o2, I havnt tried it on vodafone,
I think 3 are not officially selling them, thats why they are not on their site, we are the people they are testing on. and if we get a bad service they don't care...
so for being a loyal customer you get to buy an iphone and get a "testing" service with faults...

if your in Waterford city then you should have 3G conenction.. Half a mile outside the city in any direction and you are back to 2G..This happens me on my iPhone anyway.. Pain in the butt Threes network..

I have no idea how they are doing this, but I can see why they are not advertising it, it doesnt work on their network. I was told, you can make calls and txt so its working... ha ha iPhone is for internet... he didnt get that.

Well thats stupid of three to sell a phone that doesn't work, all the need to do is release a carrier bundle through itunes and all the settings will be there for the user.

You can but you need to be on the 3 3G network, beside the signal bars it should say 3 3G if it just says 3 with a little circle beside it your on vodafone GPRS and can't send mms.
If it says 3 3G and you still can't send it double check the mms settings.

Thanks, Yeah it has 3G and the setting are the ones I got from three.... suckers.

when your in the network settings click on Vodafone (3) even if the network settings already look like it's 3 3G selected. Then go back and select 3 3G again and that should bounce you back on the 3G network.

voda not even shoing now, look at the pics, first is when the network '3' is selected, as you can see no 3g or anything

second pic shows the phone with the network '3(3g)' selected , you can see i do have 3g.

Now on the third pic I have left the phone alone for a min and 3g is now gone again but im on the same network,

If the iPhone 3GS dont work on Three, why buy a iPhone 4 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

Its 3's fault its not working not the iphones fault, but i would stay well clear until their network is setup for the iphone if anyone was considering it.

My other unlocked iphone works on all other networks fine but not Three.... Agree

Had to leave 3 and go to meteor, complete disaster with an iPhone. No data outside of 3G and takes an age to switch to the 3G network. Useless.

Can anyone at all help me?? I transfered from 02 to 3 network in order to receive a free iPhone 4 on a trade in for my iPhone 3Gs. Im getting 3G in most places for internet coverage which is only mediocure.

When i lose 3G coverage nothing kicks in to replace it like the 'Edge' (E symbol) with O2. One or two friends of mine availed of the same offer with 3 and when they lose 3G the '0' circle symbol replaces the '3G' symbol on the top right of the screen. This '0' symbol doesnt show up on my screem and i lose internet coverage completely.

I contacted 3's technical support 6 times and ive been given 6 different theories on what the problem is. I called into their store on Henry Street Dublin and they told me its probably a problem with the Phone. I know its not a problem with the phone and i received such an answer because he didnt know the correct answer.

Is anyone else having this problem?
