Ok the 307's timing belt snapped today, theres 107k on the car and it wasn't due until 120k does anyone think this is odd ? we completely forgot that it was also based on the age of the belt so anyone have an idea how much we'd be looking at for a repair.

Has the belt been done before? AFAIK belts have a life of 66k miles?

Firstly what cause the timing belt to snap? Is there belt filings every where? Was the belt done at 60K? Had you been loosing coolant before the it snapped?

My guess is the water pump bearing failed causing the belt to bind off the cover, eventually wearing down and breaking.

You'd be looking at in the region of €800 to fix at an indy or >€1K at a dealer.

i presume thats if you havent bent or destroyed any valves you could be looking at a replacement engine, hopefully not good luck

Yeah going to stick a belt on tomorrow see if its going to be ok with just a new belt.. If not going to be a bit of a pain.

Also there were no bangs, nothing at all like that, the engine just cut out completely, would it be something like that if the valves were bent.? very new to this whole thing.

If the car was only idling when it snapped then your valves will 'probably' be fine. Never seen a belt snap without doing some sort of internal damage though unless it was a 'non interferance' engine which I don't think Peugeot are.

Ouch sorry to hear but I remember my old 1.4 diesel had an interval of 100k miles for TB change

Based just outside wicklow town, have had the local indy guy over and he's not sure sticking the belt on will work, so its looking like a head off type of job, said any of the 16 valves could be gone.. even though there was no bang from the engine.

Head had to be redone, gasket etc.. all 16 valves replaced one or two not bent but stupid not to do them all.. don't know how much its gonna cost will find out tomorrow..

    Lesson LEARNED!

I think timing belts should be replaced at the specified interval or every 4 years, whichever comes first.
