Male contraceptive pill

Just wondering what people in AH think about a male pill and whether women would trust us to take it daily, share the load i suppose, and how do us men feel about our sperm being toyed with, would you be worried that your willy falls off?
Researchers at Edinburgh University's Centre for Reproductive Biology have finally found a way to suppress daily sperm production while maintaining normal testosterone levels. This was not an easy task given that men emit millions of sperm in each ejaculation, while women only produce one egg per month.

From the results of these studies, Organon, a pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands, has developed a pill that is set to go on the market by 2005. The pill has proven to be 100% effective in preliminary clinical trials.

A larger study, involving 120 men between the ages of 18 and 45 from Europe and the United States, is currently underway. The participants have tiny rods implanted under the skin of their arm that deliver a form of progestogen (commonly found in the female birth control pill) to block sperm production.

In order to maintain their sex drive and their "male characteristics," the men receive testosterone replacement therapy injections every four to six weeks over the course of the yearlong study

He has a long way to go before he catches up with Garrincha.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrincha#Final_years_and_death
He was married twice, first to Nair Marques in 1952 (they separated in 1965), a factory worker from Pau Grande with whom he had eight daughters, and second to Elza Soares, a samba singer whom he married in an unofficial ceremony in March 1966; as Soares had also married before, the Brazilian press were sour on the marriage.[6] The couple separated in 1977, when Soares left him after he struck her during an argument. Garrincha had other significant affairs, including one with showgirl Angelita Martinez,[24] and he is known to have fathered at least 14 children.

A lot of my friends have stated that there is no way they would trust their OH to take the male pill. To be honest I think my OH would be a hell of a lot more inclined to remember to take it than me. I don't really understand the thinking that men can't be trusted, they trust us to take it and there are alot of times that women forget or take it late etc. and you don't hear men banging on about not been able to trust us. I think it would be nice to have another form of child planning to be honest and nothing wrong with sharing the responsibility of contraception either!! :D

A few studies have shown women over report their adherence to taking daily medications when compared to men. The actual differences between men and women actually taking meds daily is the same. Basically on average a woman is more likely than a man to think she's taken a pill when she hasnt. Might explain why the patch/implant has a higher success rate than the oral pill? And those situations where it's reported the pill failed. The woman was convinced she took it but didnt and then was unlucky.

I'd defo take it if it was available. If they've cracked the side effects to an acceptable level it would be a major option for the partners of men who have a bad reaction to hormonal birth control.

As it is the contraceptive options for a man are limited. Johnnies, the snip or their partner.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Get a Vasectomy problem solved
Then you can ride away to your hearts content but if your having sex with various random strangers its advisable to use a condon... STD's are rife out there

I think there would be alot less 'unplanned' pregnancies with a male pill. I know for a fact that alot of women accidently "forget to take their pill" in order to become pregnant.

Cannot see men doing this to have a baby to be honest :pac:

is there an age restriction on vasectomy's? like if you're a too young would a surgeon refuse?

Pffff..I don't trust women to take it. I've had 3 girlfriends that were on the pill and constantly had to remind them and there were definitely days they forgot.
