So the first flying car should be released in 2011 in the US, it will cost about $194.000 (€160.000).

Too bad you need half a mile of runway and a pilots licence.

Go back to 1974 and watch "The Man with the golden gun" with Christopher Lee take off in a flying car. :p

Eh no that was the sequel....2015. Only 5 more years to wait ;)

Given that flying is not easy, and bearing in mind the difficulty some people have in mastering driving, I think it only fair that some of us be allowed these....

You know i saw the price and i actually said to myself thats cheap for a car/plane thingie. I feel dirty if only i was a richer.

But the question is do you need a pilots license !!

The flying car was in the first movie also. But the tech was indeed from the future.

What a load of shit. Hardly practical considering you probably need a pilot's licence and a runway.

    88mph actually.

Jesus... I'd LOVE one of those! Imagine, your stuck at the end of a ten car snail train, everyone being held up by some dozy oul biddy in a blue Micra doing 40mph with no chance of a safe over-take, then... whoooosh... Up & Over... "Smell ya later, blue rinse biiiiaaaaatch!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

    Its sh!t.

Not really a flying car at all. More a little plane that has folding wings.

If i saw it in the street i'd take a dump on it.:mad::mad:

Its just a fold up plane and it definitely needs a pilots license to use it.

Now, make it turn into a submarine as well as a car/plane and then you're on to a winner :D

Flying cars were invented a long time ago. I think they called them light aircraft.

Sorry to burst the bubble here but you could not just 'take off' when stuck in a traffic jam as there are cars in the way.

All these people complaining... where would it land / take off from, you have to fold the wings etc. Blah, blah, blah.

If you had one, you'd be telling everyone. And you'd always be able to win one over on anyone who's banging on about how cool their new car is, how many CCs it has, the new turbo engine etc., by saying, "Well, it can't f*cking fly, can it?"

And with one of those, you would definitely, definitely pull a Bond girl. Or at least the Irish equivalent of one and you could drive home from the pub with no fear of being stopped by the Guards.

    I want one. In silver.

Yes, but here's the science bit - cars don't already have wings.

Don't fly GA much, do you?

The problem with flying is that once you get to the airport at the other end, you're kindof stuck for transportation. This may not be much of an issue in Ireland, I've never flown there, but in the US it's a bit of a snag, especially when airports are some distance away from the town they serve. Sometimes an FBO will have a courtesy car available for you, but usually they like you to be back with it in an hour or two. Having a set of wheels to complete your journey can be quite handy.
