    Hi all,

Just saw a plane flying very very high and going incredibly fast.

Left a white trail behind it for a few seconds, then no trail and then trail back again.

Could this be a military jet?

Some more details of this sighting would help!!!

e.g. Where were you? what time was it? Eastbound , westbound etc?

Doubt it, unless they left one behind somewhere.
Atlantis' mission STS-132 landed 26th May 2010. The next mission is Discovery's STS-133 planned for 1st Nov 2010.

I was in Donnybrook ....it was around 21.45 this evening. Heading east.

I got a crappy picture of the trail:

    I'd guess a meteorite.

Space station doesnt leave water vapour trails when it is orbiting around. Basically it will be out of earth atomosphire so no water or air.

Intermittent trails are common enough. Certain conditions are needed for a trail to show up. So that's not unusual. Military fast jets tend to travel in packs or herds, sorry formations;) So it's unlikely to be military. The rather more prosaic suggestion is a bizjet which are often faster than airliners, fly higher and with closely grouped engines at the back only produce one trail.

On the other hand and far more interesting. It could be space junk re-entering the atmosphere or indeed a meteorite. There are probably websites which document this kind of thing.

Usually 2's or 4's unless it was a KC135/B1 Perhaps?

Emirates B777-300 A6-ECT (operating flight UAE204 JFK/DXB) routed eastbound over Dublin @ 2147 on Sunday evening.

Pretty sure that's what you saw :D
