    .243 licence
call me stupid if u must. but between all changes have been going on lately with licencing etc. is it possible to get a .243 or similar like a 6mmbr solely for the purpose of target/varmint shoot or does one need permission for deer shooting. i have been shooting rifles with ten years and have had everything possible under deer legal calibres. now think its time to step up to some long long range shooting. and help is kindly appreciated on this matter thanks

If you are a member of an authorised range you may get a licence for a .243 or 6mmBR without having a deer permit.

Many on here have weird and wonderful calibres for Target shooting only.

However to get a .243 for shooting foxes may prove DIFFICULT but not IMPOSSIBLE, it really depends on your Super, and your character and; the reasons why you would not want a smaller calibre to shoot foxes.

no reason why you cant have a .243 for foxing as that is what it was developed for ie a varmint round, once you can show good reason and you have plenty of farmers permission to shoot on.
but as tac says it may be up to your super.

you say you have had rifles before, then you have past experience on your side.
once you have a bit of knowledge on your side you will be able to answer any questions your super may have
in my 3 applications i insisted on speaking to the super and maid sure he knew who i am as he has to form an opinion of you in order to grant your licence.
i have a .22 a .223 and a 6.5x55 which i changed for a .308 and a shot gun and i had a .22 magnum. now he now knows me by name and i feel like i could call up and talk to him about my fire arms if i needed to.

anyway my point is yes you can have a .243 if you can show the proper use for it

I have a cousin who got his .243 to shoot deer, but mostly shoots foxes with it.

A great Varminter for medium to long range too ;)
