I was at a wedding in the Kempinsky in 2008. The setting is absolutely gorgeous I have to admit, and it is a first class hotel with beautiful grounds. The food was a little disappointing though, but nice all the same. If you are catering for a largely Irish audience, you might want to check out exactly what they will be serving, i.e. plenty of salads and stuff not fish with their heads on!

The church was the one in the town of estepona up the hill, gorgeous alright.

The one thing I will say is that the wedding was in July, and the heat was unbearable, to the point that most of the guests were paddling in the sea while they should have been sipping Frexeinet -Spanish champagney thing, lovely. It is also expensive for guests to stay at that time of year. Just a thought in the recession sessions! However, I see you have chosen May, a lovely month, and a little cooler too.

Overall the hotel was great, the church was very quaint, and the event was very enjoyable, except for the heat that is. It also started much later than weddings here, Spanish eat late at night, and it worked very well.

Congratulations, and I hope it all works out for you. Estepona is my favourite place on the Costa del Sol. Still retains its Spanish feel, and is a working town so plenty of authentic Spanish life too. Beautiful beach, just beautiful.

He he, am going there next Friday too!!

Thanks a million for the information.Yes the hotel is absolutely stunning when we visited there last month,it is quite expensive but we are getting alot included in the price so dont mind paying the extra few bob.
anyone who decides to get married in july is a bloody crazy with the temps at that time of year,i am only back from a week in alicante and it was 30 degrees all last week and only getting hotter for july/august.
How anyone could put on a wedding dress or suit in those temperatures is beyond me.
The food is big thing for us and we want it to be spot on.We are looking at having a buffet meal with a big variety of foods to choose from instead of your standard sit down meal.We will defo have a proper tasting before we go decide on the food we want.
we are hoping to get over again in september to pick church and visit estepona, get a feel for the place and check out accomodation for ourselves and the guest as the kempinski is too expensive for guest travelling over.

I hear Estepona is a really nice town, didnt get a chance to view it last month but will stay there when we go out again.

    cheers

    Hi Colin,

A few other things that might help. Estepona has loads of hotels along the beach, and I am sure they will be reasonable enough in May. However, it might be worth considering renting a few apartments close by to the Kempinski. There are, as you know plenty of them, and the owners would bite your hand off if you rent them for a week or so at that time of year. Your guests might prefer the freedom of that, and it would work out really inexpensive for say groups of 4.

Anywhere along that main road is really convenient. For those not renting a car, a bus goes regularly from Estepona to Marbella and all stops on the way (Puerto Banus, San Pedro etc.) for a little over a euro. We use it regularly when we don't bother with a car. We get the coach from the airport to Marbella for €4.20 and a taxi to our spot up the coast for €15. Same back to airport. It makes a few days work out really good value. Obviously if going for longer we get a car.

You have made a good choice. Of all the towns along the Costa del Sol, I think Estepona is one of the nicest, and not a lager lout in sight either, thank God.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for all the great advice. We are going to check out accomodation when we go out hopefully in september.
I think most people will want to stay in more central in estepona itself so they will be walking distance to and from shops, beach, bars, restaurants etc etc.
It sound like areally nice place alrite. Can you get abus directly to estepona at all from the airport?

This year for the first time there is a new service from the airport to Estepona. I didn't know about it until responding to your post! That is great news for you and your guests.

Up to now the coach only went as far as Marbella. It suited us as we stay about 20 minutes from there.

The only problem is the timetable. The buses to Estepona are not as frequent as those to Marbella so unless the flight arrival is co ordinated, there could be a long wait. Alternatively, I would suggest taking the coach to Marbella and a taxi to Estepona. A taxi from Marbella to Estepona (available outside Marbella Bus Station) would cost about €30 or thereabouts.

A taxi to Estepona from the airport would cost around €100 -120. Might be better value to hire a car if the coach doesn't work out.

Thanks for the link to the timetable for the new bus service.it might actually work out perfectly with the time our flight arrives in malaga.
It is too expensive to expect people to get a taxi for that money.
Enjoy you holiday in sunny spain!
Thanks again for your help :)
