Guys/gals, I'm looking for information on how to go about getting an app developed? I've an idea and would like to see who/how to go about getting info about what needs to be done, costs involved and all that stuff.

So if anyone could link me or tell me something then it would be great. cheers!

    Get a Mac
Register as an Apple Developer here: http://developer.apple.com/
Download the Software Development Kit For iPhone
    Download XCode
    Learn Objective-C

    Make $$$$ :)

OR just go to some online company and pay for them to do it

Depending on the size/complexity, you could hire a single person to make it
http://www.tricycle.ie/ do it but i dont know if there any good

You can also get an estimate here: http://www.irishwebdevelopers.com/enquiry.php

    Hi four of a kind,

The process is as Keith described. The cost of getting a developer to do the App will completely depend on it complexity. Not 100% on the current rates but I hear of rates upto €500 per day. Which means a simple app could cost 5k and more complex 20k.
Allowing for concept, design, testing etc allow about 10 weeks for the project, again complexity dependant.
The Apple procedure is straight forward and expect about 7 days from submitting the App to seeing it in the App Store.

Yikes!!!!! Considering it as just going to be a free app for us poker players(As in updates from poker tournaments)....I don't think it would be worth that :(:(

Try and find a programming type with a similar interest to yourself and work on it together as a project. Maybe charge 79 cents so both of ye get something out of it as well as the kudos?

What do you mean by finding a programming type? The app I'm thinking about is basic chip count updates and new feeds from poker tournamnets around ireland. Nothing too complex. But since I've no idea when it comes to codes/programming I don't know where to start.

ill do it for you for €400 as long as you have already worked out all the sites where you get your info from

Good resource that site and a one stop shop to see locally made apps.

You could try one of the international freelancer site.

I got quoted 5k plus vat for a weeks work from an Irish app developer.

did you get a price from the international freelancers and if so, how did it compare?

i'm interested to know that if it costs x thousand to develop an app, how do the free ones pay for themselves?

    +1!

I presumed that they were built by the individual themselves?

Maybe they were built by the individuals. many of them are the free versions of the pro, so they may rely on people upgrading. Or they may have 3 free ones in a stable of paid ones to again maybe get you to check out the other apps. Or the free apps allow you to plug into web based services where they do charge. Or they will show these small iAds. There are all sorts of ways that it could work economically.

 well folks it is ireland.... If someone wants to charge that I say fair play, but equally I say fair play to the person who asks them if they're having a laugh.
