    hi. here are the facts:

i got my uncle to sell a van for me

my uncle never bothered getting the buyer to fill in the change of ownership form

i received a €60 fine for having no tax on the sold van 2 days ago.

my uncle doesnt know who he sold the van to. no details for him

now i know the van legally belongs to me still ,because the proper documentation wasnt filled in, but is there any way i can stop this from happening in the future, without having any details for the man that bought it.. thanks. any advice would be much appreciated.

For a start, please don't confuse legal owner with registered owner. The buyer now legally owns the van which he bought and paid through your uncle who was acting on your behalf as your agent. Deal done fair and square, imo.
Unfortunately you are still registered as the owner so I suggest you go down to your local Motor Tax office and find out what your options are. If you have a copy of a receipt to prove you sold it then that would help I'm sure.

If I'm wrong here perhaps someone would kindly correct.

A prosecution for failure to inform of a change of ownership is possible.

Thank your lucky stars it was involved in something serious. It would be in your best interest to sort this out as soon as possible.

Could you tell us what the mistake was/ how it was rectified? Others could have a similar problem in future and arrive at this thread?
