after being disapointed with an LCD i was sold by the local retailer , i have decided to change it for a 42 inch plasma , i have two options , go for the X 20 series which has 100hz or the S20 series which has 600hz , the difference in price is 150 quid , im no techno wizzard so i was wondering whether thier would be much difference in terms of picture quality and whether the one with the 600hz is worth paying extra for

    irishh_bob,

I've moved your query to the Home Entertainment Forums from the Richersounds Forum - the latter is for commercial interraction with RS, have a quick look at the Charter there, as its not a usual discussion forum. As your query relates to your choices in exchanging a TV with another retailer, this forum is a more suitable place to get opinions.

Moving queries in this way is a routine matter, you're not being "singled out" or anything like that.

    Cheers,

    Ritz.

retailer ( while of course in favour of me buying the S series ) told me that in most cases , thier is no real difference between HD ready and FULL HD , that full hd only really came into its own with respect to computer games

    Retailer is a "Noob".
Image difference between HD Ready(720p) and Full HD (1080P) is noticeable in finer detail move vibrant color.
The current issue is that television broadcast don't currently support 1080p (well officially) more than usual its 1080i.

IMO if your looking for a plasma the v20 is where my money would be extracted too. (Yes it's more expensive :) )

That guy should look for a new job, in most cases the human eye can't tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i on small screens 26" or under.
But when you move up to 40" or 42" there is a notable image difference.

Go for the one with 1080p, 150 euro will seem like a small amount in the long run.

    thanks for your reply

got hold of a catalogue this afternoon with all the info regarding panasonic plasma and LCD , if i do decide to buy a plasma , i will go for the G20 , not only has it 600hz ( which the S 20 also has i should add ) , it has THX which the S series doesnt have , it also has free sat HD inbuilt , can be bought for 900 euro in a place not that far from me

on a slightly different note , perhaps you could help me out on a question regarding LCD models in 32 inch

the S10 series 32S10b costs 575 euro and is full HD , it has 1000hz , 100,000 :1 contrast and has free view ( which is useless in the republic of ireland AFAIK) built in where as the C10 series has 40,000 :1 contrast , is HD ready and costs 425 euro

the S20 while obviously better spec,d seems quite expensive , 150 euro seems a lot of extra money to pay , am i right in saying you are mostly paying for the priveledge of FREE VIEW which isnt available in the south of ireland anyway

its not mostly the freeview you're paying for..... you said yourself "full hd, 100Hz 100,000:1" thats where the extra money goes, not the tuner. and the extra money is well worth it IMO - once you watch a good tv its hard to settle for less!!

the G20 plasma is a super TV, its not an Irish model so you will have to go up north to get one.

the 32 inch LCD featured in the panasonic catalogue is a S20B where as the one on the various website reviews is a S10B , was wondering whether they are a different model or is just a case of one being uk based and the other irish based

the S20 is the new model, the S10 is the old model. the Irish one is the S20L and the UK one is the S20B

Doesn't it depend on the viewing distance?
