BMW extended warranty

I'm half considering a new 5 series and was looking up info on extended warranties as the standard Irish one is pathetic.

    Extended warranty from
    http://www.bmw-warranty.ie/
Seems to be provided by a 3rd party. 3 packages available, two of them limited to 160k kms, the "Driveline" one is unlimited kms. It seems that you can only purchase 1 year's extension at a time. On their website they don't say how much an extended warranty costs unless you are an existing BMW owner who has received an "invitation" to purchase one.

I'm not sure if this document is referring to the same warranty
    http://murphygunn08.webzone.ie/templates/murphygunn08/pdf/BMW_Extended_Warranty.pdf

Says that the warranty is invalid unless the car is serviced by a BMW dealer, is this not contrary to block exemption rules.

So does anyone have any more info on this and know how much it costs for say 1 years Driveline warranty on a 2 year old 5 series.

My mother has it on her 2007 320d, from memory it costs around €650 for the full one with no excess. It's renewed annually, and her car has service inclusive so it goes to the dealer anyway.

Thanks for that Anan1, I was also going to ask about the service inclusive. It seems like very good value when compared to some of the shocking BMW servicing prices I've heard about.

So it's for 5 years/100,000 kms servicing. I could reach 100k kms in 2 years and I'd imagine that a car doing long journeys will go for more kms between services than one doing short journeys.

So I'd say I might get 3 services before the service inclusive runs out. I don't think its possible to buy a 2nd service inclusive - or is it?

The E90 is a bit of a PITA when it comes to servicing - it asks for each thing separately. So you might have an inspection in Jan, followed by an oil change in Mar etc. The SI is good value though, it's €1000 and seems to include everything down to the wiper blades. They also give a replacement car. AFAIK it's a once-off, and can't be renewed.

I think the cheaper SI package would suit me, it's 400 quid on a 520d or 500 on a 525d. It doesn't cover clutch, brake discs or pads like the more expensive one does - but based on previous experience I wouldn't be planning on wearing those items out in 100k kms.

But that is a real pain that the car can ask for an oil service so soon after an inspection.

That wasn't an option back in 2007, it was €1000 or nothing. Depending on driving style you might be right - my mother's car's an automatic and it's still on its original brake pads at 60k kms. On the other hand, i'm looking at €180 for front pads on my Forester after 30k kms.

Absolutely. It's not so bad if the garage is local, and they don't seem to need that much servicing, but it does seem to come in bursts. Her car's been in maybe six times since Feb 2007.
