Ok I'm looking for some help/advice. I have a Mk4 Golf and want to put a sound system in. New headunit, speakers, amp and sub. I'm not looking to win any competitions or wake the neighbourhood up but I do want a reasonable system.

I was thinking of upgrading the 4 standard speakers and using the headunit to power these and then run a seperate amp to power rear speakers and a sub. I don't know is this a good or bad idea. From what I've read on the internet 6x9's are not a great idea if running a sub and 6.5 splits would be better but I've never heard of these.

I have a few bits lying around from old projects which are a mutant 200w amp, an enclosed box with 2 x 10inch 600w subs, and a Blaupunkt 850w 2/3/4 channal amp. Seeing as I'm a student and my budget is limited I'd like to try incorporate these in some way if possible.

Basically if anyone can give me some advice as to brands and what power I require would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Stick a pair of 6.5" Components in the front Doors run off the Mutant amp

    6X9's on the back
Subs in the boot run off the Blaupunkt amp

Run the amp in 3 or 4 channel mode (depending on if the subs can be bridged)
Components in the front on the first 2 channels and then use your sub's on the remaining 1/2.

Dont bother with the 6x9's for the above setup

Cool thanks guys. Is there any point in running a pair of components or sumthing from the headunit or just run everything off the amp?
