    I know this is gonna turn into sh!t storm of puns & piss-taking but im gonna ask anyway.

    Drank 3 pints & 5 cans of beer last night. I presume it would be safe to drive a car now yeah?

    Mods please don't move this to food & drink because it'l take a week to get an answer. Thanks.

    Totally depends. Are you man or woman, what time did you start to drink, what time did you finish, did you have a big meal, how much sleep have you had etc. It's impossible to know for sure. My attitude would be if you're any way dodgy about it, wait an hour or so to be safe.

    You consumed maybe 16 units of alcohol (could be more if it was high strength beer)

    Average liver can break down 1 unit per hour (Depending on weight/sex/age/health/food consumed)

    possibly not

    But like most people on AH Im not a doctor/lawyer/Road safety expert and havent personally examined the patient

    Boards cannot give advice on this. If you're not sure/don't feel 100%, don't drive.

    OT, go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on.

    You should get yourself a personal breathalyzer if you're not sure you should drive or not

    I've often wondered about the liver breaking down one unit of alcohol an hour, is your liver breaking it down while you drink? So theoretically could you be safe to drive 16 hours after starting drinking, or does the liver not start properly breaking it down til after you stop drinking so it would be 16hrs after you stop drinking? Sorry if that's a stupid question, always being curious about that :o.

    If you can walk to the car without falling over & put the keys in the ignition first time and not in the cigarette lighter, you're grand.

    Pint of water isn't gonna do much good, what time did you stop drinking at?

    <Serious answer>
    Yes but unless youre drinking half a can per hour its not going to keep up

    Not sure if its a linear (straight line) graph either

    <AH answer>

    Take a small container of your p1$$ and drop a lighted match in

    If match goes out youre probably ok

    If it explodes in a fireball setting fire to your eyebrows Id leave it a couple of hours (particularly if you find you are now blind)

    This is true. The fellas in the white coats (i mean the guys in labs with microscopes, not the guys that chase you cause your mad) are now saying its the rate of consumption more than anything else that eventually wrecks your liver.

    I tend to drink fairly slowly myself, it would take me almost an hour to finish a litre of vodka.

    I don't think i'd risk it for another hour or so, eat something and wait a while. Unless you're going somewhere really urgent, it's just not worth the risk.

    Go into the local Garda station & ask them to breathalyse you.
    Just don't walk in swinging the car keys from your hand.
