Pope Benedict UK visit a 'mistake' says Ian Paisley

Ian Paisley has said it was a "mistake" to invite Pope Benedict XVI to Britain.

"We have had a terrible happening in Ireland with the priests and monks and nuns all taking part in acts of disgraceful behaviour with young people, and we haven't seen the Catholic Church taking a strong stand on this," he told the BBC World Service.

30 years ago we would have been inflamed by these comments. Today we have moved on and i think most of the Irish population would agree with him.

If Benedict decides to come to Ireland I doubt if the country would give him the same welcome as John Paul 2nd got in 1979.

Yes i agree what he said about what the catholic church did and that the pope shouldn't have too much importance (no offence, i beleive that god is the head of a church not someone living on earth.)But i still think it was bad for him to say that he doesn't say that about any other churches.. Oh and you should of heard them on the radio yesterday, the protestants and catholics were backstabbing on eachother, it was nuts they kept ringing up and saying comments going against the pope and then going against the church of ireland, people are never going to give up.

Yea and the first thing he needs to do is start reforming the rules, first letting people marry more than once, let woman be priests and let priests marry i mean those rules are over 2000 years old get grip and nearly every church now a days has those three reforms.

I think thw celebacy rule is only about 500 years or so (can't be arsed to google) before that the priests were at the front of the queue at the orgies!

I don't think they do. If you don't agree with the laws and traditions of Catholic priesthood(or any other religion) then you don't become a priest. You would have to be a bit of an eejit to sign up for something you don't believe in when the rules are in place.

And you know this before you join. No one is forced. These are the rules and if you disagree then you don't become a priest.
