Although CBS eventually decided to return to the original licence fee, the two sides could not agree on a budget for the series and reportedly ran out of time to sign a deal.
What, was there some big clock on the wall? "Sorry, thats it. We're out of time."

    http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2010/07/chaos-outlook-much-less-chaotic----brett-ratner-show-picked-up-by-cbs.html

The Brett Ratner and Tom Spezialy project "Chaos" has been finally picked up by CBS with a midseason order, reports Variety.
Three weeks ago things looked a bit ... well ... chaotic for the CIA drama, as CBS and 20th TV could not come to an agreement after weeks of negotiations. The actors' options were all let to expire on June 30. But it looks like a deal has been struck, including negotiations with all the actors involved.
Freddy Rodriguez ("Six Feet Under"), Eric Close ("Without a Trace"), James Murray (the British star of "Primeval"), Tim Blake Nelson ("Syriana," "Minority Report") and Carmen Ejogo ("Kidnapped") were all in the Ratner-directed pilot and will be returning for the show. "Chaos" joins the "Criminal Minds" spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" as a CBS midseason replacement.

CHAOS is a comedic drama about a group of rogue CIA spies in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (CHAOS), who combat threats to national security amidst bureaucratic gridlock, rampant incompetence and political infighting. The team tackles high risk foreign intelligence missions using manipulation, deception and wit to succeed. Rick Martinez was dismayed when his dream job as a spy was eliminated on his first day. However, CIA Deputy Director H.J. Higgins, a calculating mastermind and the head of CHAOS, recognizes Rick's unique skill set and places him as an unwitting mole inside the department. Martinez joins the team under Michael Dorset, a psychologist turned CIA operative and a tactical genius motivated by pure paranoia. Working with Martinez is Scottish-born Billy Collins, de-commissioned from the British Secret Service and deported from the United Kingdom; Casey Malick, a 12 year veteran of the agency with an understated demeanor and the ability to transform into a "human weapon." While Martinez's instincts on who he can trust are constantly tested, he may have a worthy confidant in the new Deputy Director, Adele Ferrer, who seems to have his best interests at heart. Or should he rely on officer Fay Carson, an alluring agent and an expert at deciphering people's "tells?" Attacking each assignment with unparalleled confidence and gusto, these operatives perform covert operations, exert political influence and eradicate all manner of evil - and that's just to survive the morning staff meeting.
    Cast:-

    Eric Close as Michael Dorset
    Christina Cole as Adele Ferrer

    Carmen Ejogo as Fay Carson

    James Murray as Billy Collins

Tim Blake Nelson as Casey Malick

    Freddy Rodriguez as Rick Martinez

    Kurtwood Smith as H.J. Higgins

CHAOS premieres on Friday, April 1 at 8/7c on CBS.

Utter garbage!...some unfunny mashup of The Office with CIA stuff, it's terrible....very very poor, it bombed in the ratings and only got a 1.1....expect the axe soon.

    Avoid.

After reading generally positive reviews for this, I tried to sit down and watch it yesterday.

By 20 minutes in, I was bored beyond belief. Dire dire stuff!

I found it enjoyable enough picked up towards the end, I think it has potential.

I'm going to reserve judgement until after I've seen a few more episodes, it has some potential.

I'm giving it one more ep. to prove itself, maybe they made tweaks from the pilot?

Much like he condemned fringe to cancellation not too long ago.

I did no such thing!....show proof?, i said Fringe was on the bubble, i posted a link to a website that claimed/clearly labeled "rumour" that Fringe was cancelled.

just one of your observations on Fringe not being brought back.
I'm not happy about this or gloating but i am correct in my observations, ratings dictate renewal and it's not looking good for Fringe

^ yeah?...did i outright say Fringe would be cancelled?....no, i said it wasn't looking good. And i was correct with Fringe going from 1.9 to a low of 1.3, it had two strong Fridays and dropped for a further four weeks, then Fox renewed.

Clearly Fox were happy with 1.4's as opposed to what Fox initially said to be the target range, 1.9-1.6.

    blaa blaa blaa blaa blaaa

so the numbers and targets your were train-spotting over for months were utterly meaningless

Richard you repeatedly posted about how Fringe was all but done for, you seemed to enjoy coming in every now and again with your "expert" readings of the ratings and proclaim that Fringe was not long for this world.

Rubbish!....i'm a big supporter of Fringe, i only commented on ratings when it moved to friday, like alot of people. You have a habit of goading me and getting my threads locked, so i'm reporting you!!!!!!!

Back on topic, folks..... this thread is for Chaos, not Fringe.

Oh dear, tried and failed to watch another episode, it's really terrible.

Part of me wanted this to be good, it seemed interesting compared to what else is currently airing, it's just a fresh idea very poorly executed unfortunately.

Even though i didn't like it, even i think shows should be given a chance to grow.....at least give it 5/6 eps. before pulling it, but it's about ratings...repeats of CSI NY would probably pull higher numbers for them.

Look at poor Lonestar, cut after two :(

FFS surely they could have given a few more episodes  it improved after the pilot

Bit of a heads up, bit late as well.....but, ep. 4 + 5 of Chaos was released at the weekend, i'm not sure if more are gonna be aired or not........?

    Chaos has been cancelled.
Sh|te. Only watched the 5th episode last night, and thought it was good. I think it didn't do well as wasn't original enough, as it reminded me of "Leverage" at times. Did enjoy it, though, and it's a pity it was cancelled.

Looks like 6 and 7 were also made. I know episode 6 was, we'll have to see about 7...
