In case, you can't get that to work, I would suggest looking to the Freesat EPG support.

Its built into the Gemini images and one would assume the Nabilosat and Pli images. It works a treat for me with Gemini.

After an install of a new Gemini image, I need only toggle a Freesat EPG option to enabled and I'm done. I get full 7-day listings for all UK FTA services that are on Freesat.

Hi. I'm only a couple of months into using my Dreambox as well and have tried 3 images - Gemini, Dream Elite and Nabliosat (I think this is what you have). I also tried and failed to get that EPG setup.

I went back to using Dream Elite (I have all channels available) and use the Rytec built-in EPG and it works a treat (it seems to get it's movie description info from radiotimes.co.uk). This updates from the web using your network connection. Alternatively, you can use the SkyUK EPG that updates via a satellite channel (hip hop) but I don't find this as good.

Cheers lads, BO any chance you could up load some pic's of your 7day epg. I loaded the DE image onto the dreambox and followed the steps to setup the 7day epg but no joy.

    Thanks

You only need to go into the EPG panel (I think it's blue button, red button) then select Rytec-SKYUK and go into the settings. Set a time for it to update every day). You can also press a button (red?) to make it update straight away. Sorry - I'm in work and guessing the colours here.

If you're not set on an image yet, then it might be worth following Cormac's advice as a trial as well - from other threads he seems to be a Dreambox veteran ;)

    cubix,
I'll upload some shots of my EPG later tonight when I'm home. Should help give a feel for how it looks.

Way back I used the e2_load_epg plugin which sourced XMLTV standard feeds from ratiotimes.

It would run a binary in the background that pulled down a bunch of XML files, post-process them into an EPG format for the dreambox and then bounced enigma to get it to read the custom EPG. Variations of this now exist that are pre-packaged in some of the images. Others can be downloaded from plugin sources etc.

Maybe its now faster and better optimised.. but at the time, on my DM7025, the whole process would take 5-10 minutes depending on how much data you were downloading and processing. You'd run it at night because of this overhead.

Once Freesat support came to Gemini, I bid farewell to this approach and have not looked back.

The one drawback.. its Freesat services only.. if you have an official Sky card or UK FTV card.. then the non-Freesat services will not get EPG feeds. Similarly, FTA services that are not on Freesat will only have now&next.

How do you get around the problem of the EPG for non-Freesat channels?

I'll get some photos of the Dream Elite EPG as well.

Lads again, much appreciated;). Here are some of the images from the DB once I have carried out what I think are the necessary steps. As you can see from the last picture the epg is a bit sparse. Not sure if it makes a difference but in picture 4 where it says to save the "epg dat file" I have no HDD/usb key installed, is this my down fall?. Just to add I am using a sky card in the box and all channels are clearing fine.

    Cheers

almost definitely.. you're configured to save to a mount point that does not exist. It might allow you to select the HDD if you have one installed/attached. Other than that, get a USB key inserted and formated so it can save the temporary files. Don't try to to save direct to the onboard flash.. could cause issues if it fills it up.

    Screenshots from my DM8000 EPG.

You can see the channel list with the current service shown.

There is a single EPG view shown for one of the Freesat services. Pressing yellow in this view switches between time and name sorting... excellent when looking for a particular programme.

Then a shot of the standard multi-epg which shows a list of programmes on each service with yellow/blue moving forward and back on the programmes. I don't really use this one.

Finally there is a shot of the graph multi-epg which gives a grid format. Pressing buttons 1-6 will change the time span of this grid making it span more/less time. Handy for looking further ahead in grid format if required. I have this configured to launch when I press the green button. Gemini lets you assign the green button to a custom action.

I'll get some photos of the Dream Elite EPG as well.

Edit:.. maybe I wasn't clear.. I only have FTA.. no Sky sub.. just in case you were thinking I do. Dropped Sky in 2005 and saved loads of cash.. spent it on a DM8000.

I don't get around non-freessat services.. but I don't think there's a lot of worthy non-Freesat FTA services TBH. Everything we watch seems to be on Freesat already. When my UK FTV card still worked, it was annoying that Fiver and Five US had no EPG as did Sky Three (not that I was bothered watching it). But given that Fiver/Five US are largely just showing older shows/repeats from Five, we just got on with it and didn't miss the EPG. In the end, the card stopped working and I wasn't bothered trying to source another.

This is the full list of my English TV Bouquet below. I think all of these are on Freesat bar one or two of the movies for men channels. The bouquet of German TV for the wife is all using standard DVB EPG. Then the news and kids bouquet is all made up of freesat or German services.. so all have EPG. Maybe Sky News is missing one.. but I don't watch it much :).. BBC News or BBC World any day over Sky News.

Yep - your epg config file is stored in the etc folder on the hard drive so you'll need to get one sharpish! Have a look at my first post on this thread - it's important to get a low heat\quiet drive!

One other thing - do you have your DM connected to the internet? It pulls down the epg info from there, not the satellite signal.

Any of u know if there is a 7 day EPG plugin that going round for the Dreambox 7000, specfically for 28 degrees east for Sly, BBC, ITV etc. Im running a Gemini image at the minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭Barack Obama

Thanks posting those pics Cormac. Here's a couple from the Dream Elite EPG (RytecUK). They are taken as screendumps from the web interface so do not look as sharp as on the TV. In the channel selection option, the channel you are currently tuned to is visible and a description of the show is displayed below (except that one of course!).

The EPG looks pretty much the same as the Gemini but there is the added program description on the right (can this be switched on with the Gemini image?).

FIVE HD is not showing up on the EPG - I guess I have to add that in to the channel list (I've only recently added it along with ESPN America HD). Anyone know how to do this with Rytec?

Thanks lads, will have to do a bit more reading & messing around. I hooked up a usb key and formatted via the DM and downloaded the epg again but still nothing. BO the box is connected to the net, anyways will have another go today;)

May seem obvious to some but from what I can see the reason I could not get the 7day epg to work was because I did not have any bouquets set up. I was clicking on all (red) then clicking on the button 3 which was giving me a blank epg. From the different tut's I have read there was nothing in them mention this.
On a side note is there anything better than "dreamedit to edit channels. The reason I ask is because when I delete channels from the main window/save and upload back to the DB they are still there when I click all on the dreambox channel list.
Also when I ftp the channel list from the DB into dreamedit to sort out channels etc it does not seem to show sky HD channels even though they are in the dreambox channel list on the TV.

Have you tried this - http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/dreambox-support-forum/176541-release-sly-uk-bouquets-v2-9-june-16th-2010-a.html. It's a full setup of Boquets to mimic the Sky listings.

You use DreamBoxEdit - http://dreamboxedit.digsat.net/ to rearrange the listings as you want. Once you have the connection to your DM, you simply FTP the files over and the settings are made.

Tip1: Make a backup of the files and keep them safe
Tip2: To add or insert channels to existing lists simply drag & drop from the channel list on the left to the desired bouquet on the right. For each channel you add you should delete one of the placeholders to keep the numbering in order.

    Here's a link to a guide mate -
    http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/dreambox-guides-stickies-faqs/166654-tutorial-dreambox-edit-create-backup-bouquets.html

You don't use Filezilla. Install DreamBoxEdit and in the Options tab, setup things like the IP address and the folder on your PC that you are saving the files to. Then in the FTP tab, simply 'Retrieve files from Dreambox' and it will pull across the files from the Dreambox (you should see a load of files in the folder that you selected in the Options tab).

You can then simply copy and paste the files from the Bouquets zip that you downloaded to this folder (overwrite the files). Then select 'Send Files to Dreambox' followed by 'Reload settings on Dreambox'. Et volia - after it reboots, it will have the full bouquets setup!

You can then start making changes to your bouquets by pulling the files over, making desired changes then copying them back

The way I have it set up (I followed a tut on the net too!) I have to go into radio and select a channel called hip hop (which I have linked to epg data) and it just start updating. :D

Would this work on a QBox HD with Enigma2?

That means you are using the Sky EPG which uses the hip hop channel to pull down the EPG info via the satellite feed. Doesn't this fail if you are watching\recording something?

Thanks a mill Barack. I have loaded up the sky bouquet and its works perfectly, tell me any of you know if there is an 7 day epg for these sky/bbc channels available for the enigma 1 dreambox 7000s and if so how do i load it up?

Nope it updates and thats it. In what way do you mean it fails?? If your watching a program its not going to stop you going into the EPG... If your updating the epg you need to let it do what it has to do for about 3 mins an thats it. unless you have it set up to automatically update... I just update it manually as I dont really need it as I have a full sky epg on the iphone...
