Is background music usually played at the meal part of the wedding? We're not going to have live music or anything, but something played through the hotels speaker system.

    Thanks

Not at any wedding I've ever been to. People get time to chat at the meal. Music in the background would just be a distraction.

We had soft classical music playing in the background. Question of personal choice really I just did it not to hear the clink of cutlery on plates for the evening

I have been to weddings where there has been background music, and others that didnt. And I would definitely have some music during the meal. There will obviously be some people at tables who dont know each other, and it can be quite awkward for them if no one is talking.
Id choose music with no words, maybe classical music.
