Limerick City is definately bigger than Galway City centre.

But Galway seems bigger if you include surrounding areas, limerick more squashed together.

Also looking at google maps Galway wins!

I know a few people from Galway who think Limerick is way bigger, don't see it.

Limericks urban footprint is far greater than galways, i love galway and been there countless times but looking at both you have

Galway: city centre is based on medievel town, very small and compact, max 5 mins from terryland (outskirts), main suburbs are also very small as boundary is very big, this includes oranmore village and salthill which are reasonably small in size.

Limerick: city centre is far greater in size, wider streets, bigger buildings, bigger distance covered. Limerick suburbs are much bigger which include Caherdavin (7000+), dooradoyle/raheen (25,000+), Castletroy(32,000+), then if you want to include areas like meelick, ardnacrusha, westbury, shannon banks etc all of which are natural expansions of the city into clare, i suppose its why galways population is 72,000 and Limericks is 100,000+ pending on how far you go out

thats why Limerick has a bigger population too..its like asking which has a bigger covered area..dublin or cork..well dublin cos it has a bigger population..maybe not as the same scale as galway and limerick but still..i think you'll understand if you actually visited galway!
