It's Birthday time once again here at Lunar Disko and we have a very special night planned for our 4th Birthday celebrations. Jetting in to help us blow out the candles are 2 of our favourite artists, Marco Passarani and Rude 66 LIVE!...

    MARCO PASSARANI

Marco Passarani hails from sunny Roma, Italy and is the label boss behind the highly revered 'Nature Records', 'Pigna' and any Finalfrontier related record labels. His Finalfrontier production hub is, indeed, the axis for artists such as Jolly Music, Mat 101, Francisco, Raiders of the Lost ARP, Ambit 3 and Monomorph/D'Arcangelo amongst a host of others. Marco Passarani has played a pivotal role in the Italian techno scene since the early days, djing, promoting and running his Finalfrontier pioneering distribution and production company.

For fifteen years, his journey into the electronic dance scene has always been in a central “behind the scenes” position, with his first productions coming out in late 1993 on Detroit based Alan Oldham’s 'Generator' label. The following year he created 'Nature Records' and his own distribution and production company Finalfrontier. Whilst releasing and promoting other artists on his own labels, he has also released various works (EPs, LPs, remixes, compilations) on a bunch of seminal labels of the likes of Skam, Peacefrog, Clone, Rephlex, NovaMute.

His sound has always been very emotional and dynamic, throwing in washes of any form of electronic dance music into a unique style that ranges from peak time dancefloor to introspective electronica. Surely, his more recent productions reveal his earlier influences more than ever: both signatures, Marco Passarani (Peacefrog) and Analog Fingerprints (Pigna / Finalfrontier) clearly show his passion for the roots of Detroit Techno and Chicago House. His ability to re-interpretate those genres, gave Marco the chance to collaborate once more with some of the most respected Detroit production projects such as Submerge (the Finalfrontier record label is actually co-produced by Submerge). In his DJ sets Passarani spins classic techno into twisted italo-disco, electro, house and funked-up electronix in a fluid and contained groove, and lately he's adding even more personal touch through newer technologies (such as Serato Scratch) playing a lot of unreleased tracks, beats and edits.

Rude 66 landed on Bunker Records in 1993 where, with Unit Moebius and I-f, he defined the acid sound of the Hague: lo-fi acid from the sewer. In 1997 Rude 66, bored with corporate techno and empty distorted acid, evolved his style to dark electro funk. A string of ep’s on leading genre labels like Bunker, Vynalogica (his own imprint), Angelmaker, Crème Organisation and Viewlexx established Rude’s name as one of the masters of the dark side of electro-wave, pushing his analogue studio to the limits on already classic tracks like 'Machine', 'Black sabbath', 'My 909' , 'Overkill' and his most recent releases 'The 1000 year storm' and 'As'.

For the past 15 years, Rude has perfected a sound that employs everything from early 80’s alternative club music to his own dark acid past, from oldskool electro to italian soundtracks. Rude’s choice of workhorses (mostly vintage analogue synths and drum machines) and recording methods (still using a big mixing desk and analogue reel-to-reel recording) have resulted in an instantly recognizable signature sound: hard, dense but full of detail and groove and still carrying trace elements of the classic sound of the Hague.

As a firm believer in only recording tracks when you have something to say, Rude’s output has never been prolific, but each release has hit the scene hard. Rather than just making tracks for the sake of making tracks, Rude’s music has always had an idea behind it, usually working with themes rooted in the darker side of life. Rude's tracks are anything but dj-tracks only made to fill mixes. He believes it’s very important that his tracks can be enjoyed at home as much as on the dance floor.

Rude 66's acclaimed live shows are intense improvisation workouts featuring mostly analogue equipment. Rude has dragged his equipment all across the world for over 15 years from small squats to big festivals, and knows like no other how to rock a crowd hard.

This coming Saturday sees Lunar Disko celebrate 4 years of monthly parties, and we have a cracking weekend lined up! Yet another jam packed year has flown by that has seen us wave goodbye to our home for over 3 years, release 4 more records on the label and have some more of our favourite DJs & Live acts play for us - Sneak-Thief, DJ TLR, TR-One, Sunil Sharpe, DJ Jus-Ed, Mark du Mosch, Automatic Tasty, Neville Watson, DJ Overdose, Casionova, Meschi, Simon Conway & Alden Tyrell. Not too mention all the great local lads we've had down too, we thank them all for helping us through another year!

It's now 4 years ago since we had the first night of our monthly parties and we have 2 very special acts lined up to help us celebrate - Marco Passarani & Rude 66 LIVE. The next day we will be continuing the party with our own Lunar Disko boat party. You can sign up here for e10 entry to the club and boat! - http://tiny.cc/ore10 . Anybody signed up to this list will get an email over the next couple of days regarding the boat party.

Passarani played at Lunar Disko last year in Kennedy's, and since then we have been itching to get him back over. Anyone who was there will remember just how good this guy was, mixing up killer tracks from a vast variety of genres with ease! Definitely worth checking out the big man from Roma if you havent seen him to date.

Making his long awaited Lunar Disko debut is Rude 66. We've wanted to have Rude over for quite awhile now and are delighted that he can join Marco for this night. Rude has been releasing records since 1994 on labels such as; Acid Planet, Bunker, Djax-Up Beats and more recently; Viewlexx & Creme. Last time he played in Dublin for Electric City he had the place hopping to crazy electro / acid trax like 'My 909', 'Machine', and killing it at the end with the amazing '1000 Year Storm'. That night he was accompanied by Shauna on vocals but he will be flying solo for Lunar Disko this weekend, playing a more acid / instrumental set.

We have some guestlist passes up for grabs also, so if you want to be in with a chance, simply email lunardiskodublin[at]gmail.com with 'Guestlist' in subject line. Winners will be selected from the virtual hat, and emailed on Friday afternoon.
