    SONY PICTURES IRELAND PRESENTS: The Karate Kid Challenge (Ireland) open to all styles of Martial Arts.

    The event format is based around the Karate Kid film theme in which the Karate teacher (Jackie Chan) mentors the young Karate Kid (Jaden Smith) to overcome bullies and learn about life. The age range of the competitors in the Karate Kid Challenge competition in from 8 years to 16 years and the accompanying teacher (Sensei) being a qualified black belt over 21 years of age.     The winning student will receive a trip to China with a member of his family. The winning adult black belt will receive a trip to London with his partner for the premier of the film, Jackie Chan, Will Smith and his son Jaden will be attending the London premier.

    There will also be free cinema tickets and lots of Karate Kid merchandise.

    Competition Date: Sunday 11th July

    Venue: Dundrum Shopping Centre

    Entry Forms available from the STAR newspaper on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd July.

    Closing date for entries is Monday 5th July.

    This is a free event, there is no entry fee.

    All competitors will receive a specially minted Karate Kid Medal.

    Shouldn't they have called it The Kung-Fu Kid? Because, you know, China has that whole Kung-Fu thing going on, not so much the Karate.

    One of my students (10 years old Mollie Mc Nevin) won 50 tickets for the Galway Premiere and she took me and half the Gym to see it.
    Have to say, I enjoyed it all the more to see the smiles on some of my Juniors faces - and the flick wasn't bad either.
