My girlfirend has fractured her wrist and it looks like she will be out of work for 6 to 8 weeks. I know she has to get a social welfare cert from her doctor but I'm not sure where to go from there or what exactly it is. Is there a benefit payable for this kind of injury? How much does the social welfare pay during this time and how long does it take to get payed?

    Hi K_mac,
Firstly she goes to doctor they fill out an illness benefit form your GF fills out what is relevant to her and sends it off to illness benefit people,

then every week for the amount of time your GF is off work she goes back to the doctor and gets and inter cert -yellow form (this can be given by receptionist) fill in her name address pps date of birth contact number and sign and date it then post it freepost to social welfare services, po box 1650, dublin 1, she can drop it into welfare office but posting it is quicker.

She will then get a payment into her bank account (details given in original form filled out with doctor) its usually 196 p/w same as JSB JSA when doctor deems it fit for her to go back to work she will fill out the back of the yellow form ie the blue side and your GF will be taken off illness benefit

hope she feels better soon :)
