Any suggestions, something to buy or make myself (provide it doesn't take major time or effort)

Not a great lover of green tea

Green Tea still has caffeine in it....

You could try some Ginseng, I feel it wakes me up a bit.

You might find once you're fully weaned off caffeine that you don't need a 'hit' in the morning.

didn't know that about green tea :o

ideally it would be a drink, could I make something with Ginseng?

All tea actually comes from the same plant (Camellia Sinensis), it's just when it's picked / how it's brewed determines whether it's Black, White, Green, Wu Long etc..

You can get Ginseng in tablets or in liquid form, you could have a cup of herbal tea (Rooibos, Chamomile, Ginger etc.) and drop in some Ginseng or swallow a tablet along with it.

Just as a matter of interest, why are you trying to wean yourself off coffee? Though there are a lot of people who act as though coffee is the devil, research seems to show it has more health benefits than drawbacks.

Coffee beans + water = virtually zero calories. And drinking coffee by itself is healthy as it contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body.
Calories increase like crazy when you go from drinking the basic black to flavored, whipped, topped, iced, frozen versions, with all the "extras" and "goodies" throw in!

Stick with black and enjoy. ;)

+1 on this. I am never, ever, ever, ever going to give up coffee.

Ever. I just can't see the point in depriving myself of that much deliciousness for so little potential benefit.

Personal choice, am feeling myself being more dependant on it and don't like that. Have gone to craving one mid mornign now too.

After going cold turkey on it after my thesis (became dependent on it daily) i am now allowing myself a mug on nicely brewed coffee from my cafetiere every morning and this week its gone down well and i find myself happy with the one mug (provided its as strong as gasoline!) Hopefully this will work because i do love a good strong mug of coffee.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good strong ground coffee or beans that are easy to get from the shops. I;m currently using a nice columbian coffee.

Cycling to work wakes me up a lot more than coffee does, and I am a coffee drinker.

would also prefer it to not contain sugar

am thinking a drink with ginger, ginseng and guarana. Ginger is easy, any idea how to add the others to a a drink.

I have been on hasbean coffee all week!

You realise guarana has caffeine right?
about 2–4.5% caffeine in guarana seeds compared to 1–2% for coffee beans

Seems you could be giving up the beer and hitting the whiskey!

I get my fix from the Bald Barista every morning. Amazing stuff.

I would highly recommend an aeropress, we have had many coffee machines worth thousands come and go in work and everybody goes back for the cheap aeropress.

I got one from this seller

OP have you tried green tea from a proper tea shop? I don't like plain green tea at all but you can get incredible tea blends with loads of other aromatic herbs/flowers/spices/fruits in with it and it is totally different tasting. I have amazing ones like citrus and bergamot, rose and lavender, jasmine etc.
