Text Speak on full keyboards

Yes, thanks in advance for anyone who wants to tell me this subject has been discussed before, I haven't come across it. So I will proceed...

I'm 28, mobile phones came about in a big way when I was about 17/18 and text speak was fine to a degree because it was weird and new getting used to the way mobile phone keys work.

But I get a lot of messages from people that generally go like "how r u 2day, wot r u up2?" usually written on Iphones or Blackberries with full keyboards or full touchscreen keyboards respectively (or actual computers). It absolutely drives me insane. Sometimes I feel old and out of touch because I get a message full of numbers and misspellings that I actually don't understand it.

When I tell my friends that do this that I don't understand what they're saying, they treat me like I have just stomped on their puppy, that it's inappropriate to comment on it.

Is it inappropriate to comment on it? Or am I just getting old and grumpy?

I think your dead right.
I don't need to have to try and decode every forum text I might read.
If I wanted to read deliberate poor spelling, I'd ask for it (god knows why!). Otherwise some forum text people need to buy a dictionary.
Is an extra half a second just to spell something right, really going to kill a person?

I hate it! I've never used it, even way back when you could only send a certain amount of characters per message. I just think its laziness in the extreme, most mobiles have predictive text. And anyone who uses it on a website or forum is a moron in my opinion.

You are completely right, I can't get my head around people using it when they are using their computers/full keyboard phones. I don't know if its just me though, but I have been noticing it a lot less lately.

I prefer to think of that as tard speak! Leet speak to me is gamer language.

Text Talk is Terrible but anacronyms and initialisms are O.K. to use in Boards posts. I don't understand this when a keyboard is being used, it's kind of like encouraging people to use a kind of Text Speak.
