Hey folks, I recently bought a MacBook Pro refurbished model from the Apple Store Website and am hunting around for a mini display port to hdmi cable. The one I'm really after is this one http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A as it has audio support and I really don't want to have to mess around with extra audio cables everytime I hook it up to my TV. But
    a) it says its only for mid-2010 macbook pro models and as mine is a refurb how would I know it supports it?
    b) how can I buy it as I don't see it listed on the Irish or UK apple store website.

    Thanks

    Looks like this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27549

Have used dealextreme in the past many times. Only downside is that the stuff usually takes two or three weeks to get here. Shipping is free.

Thanks but that one has no mention being able to pass in audio as well which is what I'm really after

    sorry my bad, I'm blind!

EDIT: actually although it mentions audio in the specs, people who reviewed it say it doesn't play sound. Any ideas anyone?

Ok so it seems to be available to buy from the official Moshi website but they want $35 for shipping! Gonna try this instead: http://cgi.ebay.ie/Cablesson-Mini-DisplayPort-HDMI-Adapter-Audio-/370398385215?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes&hash=item563d76d43f#ht_1596wt_1169 and will report back

This does not support sound on my Mac, but that's because Apple doesn't send audio over Displayport. I don't know if it does work with other devices.

Fits perfectly on my Macbook Pro 15.4" mid 2009
I'm guessing that the mid-2010 Macbooks send sound through their Displayport, but older models didn't.

Had a google, and got this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3065

I'm guessing if you look at the bottom of the laptop, and got the model, and posted it up here, I'll have a google, and see what I can find. Also post, or PM the serial. Usually the serial tells you the date of manufacture.

My serial is 73022KCDATM. I have a displayport/hdmi field in my audio hardware information when i click "about this mac" so I'm guessing it is capable? Either way the adaper's on its way so I'll find out soon!

    From http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html I got:
    Serial number: 73022KCDATM
    Group1: MacBook
    Group2: Pro
    Generation: 71
    ModelCode:
    CPU speed: 2.4GHz
    Family name: A1278
    Screen size: 13 inch
    Colour: Aluminium
Memory - number of slots: 2
    Factory: 73 (Refurbished)
    Model introduced: 2006
    Production year: 2010
    Production week: 22 (June)
Production number: 22385 (within this week)
Thinking this is the refurb serial, as opposed to the original serial, so unsure if that's the "real" date or not, but I'd say it's fairly new. Most refurbs are just returns for stupid user-caused reasons.

Cable arrived and I can confirm it works great, sound and all! You just have to select HDMI out in the sound properties of the system settings to get it to output through it. Thought it would auto-detect the sound output but its no biggie. Cheers for your help
