anything devo though admittedly they are more well known in a commercial sense lately.

A few years ago it would have been Whipping Boy-Heartworm but in Ireland at least most alternative/indie fans have heard this by now.

The Associates- Sulk is an amazing album that a few people ive recomended it to also liked. If they didnt they wouldnt be human.

I'll never get it and I never will for the plain reason that there is nothing TO get. Even their so called radio-friendly song 'My Girls' is pretty underwhelming.

Cap'njazz, braid, american football, joan of arc, owls, cursive, minus the bear, the appleseed cast, we were promised jetpacks.

My mates tend to listen to indie that isn't indie at all, bit depressing.

    I directed their first video.

No way, that's deadly. Quiet little voices? They're criminally underrated here and in the UK, seem to be getting much more attention stadeside.

 ok yeah that song is, but a lot of their stuff is absolutely serious!

Deerhoof. Everyone I've played them to has gone through a process of 'Ugh, turn that off' -> 'Good band, but that singer's a headwrecker' -> 'Deerhoof are savage!' :p

Yeah, that's the one. Their record company gave us a budget of exactly zero for it!

They've only played one gig in Ireland as far as I know - HWCH in 2008 I think it was, and that was only as part of the Scottish invasion section.

Ironic given the name of the label :)

Yeah I'm dying to see them come over here, did manage to catch them in Manchester though when I was living there and it was only £4 in, best value for money gig ever.

ps the vid is good, I mean you would've been restricted with no budget but it's nicely done despite that. And it's got nearly half a million views now, you bigtime charlie!

let's hope they come back soon, such a great band, good video too considering the budget :).

    on topic.

biffy clyro - vertigo of bliss
    phoenix - wolfgang
adebisi shank - this is the album...
BATS - red in tooth and claw.
    crystal castles - self titled.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

Indeed. But I don't want to bitch too much about the record label. I've nothing but high hopes for the lads - they're a hard working bunch o'Scottish lads - Adam, for a such young guy, is a great lyricist too!

BATS - red in tooth and claw.

BATS are a brilliant live band. I've never seen them live and not been impressed.

I trust you've delved further into their back catalogue - Today and This Is Our Music are in their own way beautiful albums. Today in particular is sublime given the fact that the band scarcely knew each other or how to play their instruments. Galaxie 500 remain for me the most magical band of the U.S. underground scene and On Fire is my favourite album of the 1980's.

I really like a Canadian band called Black Mountain. Not completely underground, but they seem to operate under the radar for the most part.

    Marquee Moon - Television
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers

    Primary Colours - The Horrors

    Great albums all..

P.S. My mates are pretty sheltered

My sister used to have that album. I can remember it being pretty good, very similar to the likes of Mansun and My Vitriol. Must track it down.

About 5 years ago the Guillemots played Oxegen. One of the highlights of the smaller tents.

I had been a fan of them for a while & persuaded some friends to come see them - none of them were impressed & it's a running joke between them all now!

Why I don't know - Superb band all in all!

I flew over to Manchester to see one of the first Gang of Four gigs after they got back togeter (2nd I think), It was a great gig but for years after my gang of four t-shirt was mocked as a G4 t-shirt.

Gang of four are great though and I have converted some people to thier wonderful ways. The first 3 albums are great but thier debut "Entertainment" is in the top 5 albums released during my favorite era 77-84

None of my friends, or anyone i know really, have heard of the band Catherine Wheel, which is a real shame. This is a really great song from their brilliant 1992 album Ferment, although this is an edited version.

And for those of you who like a bit of folk-rock, unlike most of my friends, The Acorn are definitely a band worth checking out. This is from their album Glory Hope Mountain

Really into a band by the name of belleruche no one i know would have ever heard of them, but being listening to them solid for the past month cant get enough of it to be honest, bit like portishead if they took a bit of liking to soul music.

Could listen to this one all f*cking day.

The greatest band of the 80's, Pixies and R.E.M. be damned.

Wilko Johnson (ex Dr Feelgood), best live act on the planet...bar none!
He's got Norman Watt-Roy (best bass player of his generation) on bass.
    Guitar plugged directly into amp.
    Bass plugged directly into amp.
No plecs, no pedals, no effects.
2 hrs of real r'n'b later, band leaves stage SOAKED in sweat.
Criminal that nobodys heard of him and he plays in pubs and not arenas.
P.S. You can see him on my first youtube link below... and in Belfast on August 27th, cu there!

Nobody i know has ever heard of The Sea And The Cake. Brilliant band. Such groovey, funky, smooth tunes. Have a load of albums, all well worth a listen but some of them outstanding. Any time i've played them to anyone they have asked who it is we are listinging too.
