Turns out that America used to make suspended teachers that they cannot fire sit in a windowless room all day until they go mad and quit.

They are now stopping that, and instead putting them to admin work.

Does anyone know what we do with suspended teachers awaiting a hearing?
Do we just send them home?

I'd gladly swap jobs with them.

Can I just add in a hearty 'WTF?' to the whole rubber room concept?

You can't fire them for being bad at their job as they are unionised and in the public service. So you hope they quit or give a really good reason to fire them by making the working day so horribly boring that they want to. It sort of works.

I think they only get suspended here if they kill someone, after which they're on full pay, whilst being re-habilitated on a string of world cruises until they retire.

I can see the logic behind making the working day so intolerable that it forces them to quit, which of course = problem solved, but surely if they're suspended pending a hearing, there's some sort of guilt/innocence/human rights issue coming into play? It's a weird solution to the problem IMO.
Then, when I think of all the terrible teachers I've had who couldn't be fired...

    My thoughts exactly.

I say they got what they earned... but then again, holy **** thats brutal. I hope at least, they all learned the gravity of sending students to detention and in-school suspension - the student equivalent of rubber room treatment. And having done about a collective 2 months worth of ISS over my US school years let me tell you it Sucks.
