A fella on my car forum recently got a guided tour of Tomei's workshop in Japan.
It's pretty interesting so I'll repost it here.

Some people may not know but Tomei don't just make parts, they also do a lot of work for various domestic tuners.
Space is at a premium in Japan and equipment is very expensive so it just doesn't make sense to invest heavily in specialist machinery.
Tomei can make parts such as pistons, cranks and cams to exact requirements and also perform other engine work such as dummy boring, honing, valve seating, porting etc.

Anyway, first off was the development room where they create and test new products.
Here a new range of new turbos were sat on the table as well as various parts and engines.

Separate room where engines are built.

Comparision of normal piston to the cooling channel piston, something they're very proud of.
