This is topical for me at the moment as I've just re-negotiated with First Ireland to get the premium down.

I've set up this poll to get a snapshot of the money it is currently costing folks for classic car insurance.

Please vote in the poll and leave a comment if you need to clarify whether it's comprehensive or 3rd party.

    AXA Renewal €534 comp.
    Aviva quote €578 comp.

^^^^ Standard car policy, only car, daily driver, max NCD, 1 theft claim 22 months ago... ('78 Citroen GS X2 1.2L)

Aviva quote €213 comp. (5k limit)
First Ireland quote €270 comp. (2k limit)

^^^^ Classic car policy, 2nd car, limited mileage, ('72 DAF 44 Est 0.8L)

    Taken out:
First Ireland €685 - GS, daily, main car, 10k limit. DAF 2nd car, 2k limit.

[soapbox]I've only been here 3 years and it's gone up by around a 1/3 from €400 for a standard car policy to €534.

    Talk about being arse-raped.

The only thing that keeps me sane is the fact that I have a 1986 Reliant Rialto, 1982 Volvo 343 CVT, 1969 Reliant Regal 3/30 all insured on the same policy, comp, no NCD, no main car, unlimited mileage, breakdown cover, the works for £103. Yes, you read correct: £103 for 3 cars back in the UK. (I don't recall paying any more than £130 for insurance in the UK for the last 6 years).

They can try and justify it with cost of this, cost of that, levy of everything else, but it still doesn't fill the void. The cost is all down to profiteering and no competition in the marketplace.

(And no, I won't retire my GS from daily duties. A car is to be used, not to gather dust. I've never owned a car newer than 10 years old, and most of the cars I've had have been over 20.)[/soapbox]

    €200 - €300
My main drive is a Land-Cruiser (commercial), is about 750 comp, BUT.. being commercial, have to have another policy (seperate) if I need to drive a private car.
Got 99- 520i (comp) for 400 last year- (not bad, but had to do alot of pushing)

Zodiac costs 140 (TPFT-with FBD-via Irish Vintage Society, standard clauses re mileage, second car, etc)
    , MGB is120 ( as per Zodiac).
The bike is 390 (TPFT- Carole Nash)

Somebody suggested I get a trade policy...? Any thoughts/comments welcome.

I got a renewal quote from carole nash of 320 this year - comprehensive on the Scimitar.

I was a bit slow renewing it and the policy had lapsed by 2 days before I contacted them. They said as the policy had lapsed They would be in a position to give me a new customer quote which came in at ~270.

I forgot to add I'm with Carol Nash by the way. They said I could also add my Micra onto it for €50 extra.

AXA renewal for the Porsche 924 was €366.

Went with Aviva for €234*. (Fully comp, breakdown, 5K limit).

Always had great service with AXA, but times are harder, and Aviva were very helpful and professional too.

    * includes a 20% discount for having home and health insurance with them.

What is wrong with this picture?....Is there no reward for loyalty anymore!
I think staff are rated on "New" business, (for their commission/ bonus or whatever), It would appear nobody cares about business falling of the back end.
Used to be so much the other way round, and how bad was that.

    €400 +
1993 Porsche 968, Eur 320 with First Ireland.
1994 Porsche 968, Eur 75, with First Ireland.

Yep, Seventy-Five Euro to add the 2nd car.

Me, I'm delighted - no-one else came close, and AXA in particular were not only a waste of time, but wasted a lot of mine, as well.......

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
