Blood spurting Zombies

After running Zombies this my second greatest peeve with how Zombies in the media are portrayed.

Isn't it unlikely given what happens to the blood after death that Zombies would bleed at all?

No heart beat and congealed blood would mean no blood splatter as far as I can work out. Any wounds wouldn't heal causing the blood to simply drain out of the body but I'm not sure what the time scale is for blood clotting after death. Once that happens your only going to see jellied lumps coming off Zombies.

So are the bloody messes we typically see in Zombie films a complete fantasy?

In short, yes. However there would be a certain amount of bile and other fluids that would be contained within the body so there probably would be some liquid splatter. How long after reanimation this would remain though is something I don't know.

you have to think, though, while blood will congeal to a semi-solid goo, the liquid part still has to go somewhere. maybe [i havent got solid research on this] it would seperate, similar to milk when its left out? i.e. there's a layer of goo at the bottom, and a watery component on the top?

also another thing that happens when you die is pooling. while your blood is still running just after you die, it will congregate on the lowest side of the body, the side thats touching the ground. this created a large bruised pattern wherever the body was lying, usually just under the skin. hitting this part of a z will prolly cause one hell of a mess.

I guess there would be other liquids as the blood and bile separate out but I don't think it would be bright or dark red blood, more than likely a black/green watery liquid. In reality that would probably make you gag if it came near you but doesn't seem to excite the film makers.
