iTunes album renaming - Help?

In my iTunes I have dozens of songs which come from different albums, and I may only have a specific song and not the entire album, yet iTunes then adds this album as if I have the whole album. In my iTunes I have dozens of songs which come from different albums, and I may only have a specific song and not the entire album, yet iTunes then adds this album as if I have the whole album. Even when I erase the album from the track iTunes eventually comes along and updates the track as if I have that album. It is fierce annoying with iTunes saying I have around 400 albums when in reality I have only around 150.

Is there anyway to stop itunes from messing about with the track & album names?

Hmmm, what about select all these tracks and edit the Album property for all of them to something common, such as 'Singles'?
