Half Marathon Complete - What Next?

Just completed my first half marathon in Enniscorthy at the weekend, and was wondering where to from here. I'm planning on running the DCM this year, and was looking at the HH novice programme.

I won't be able to start any programme until next Monday, as still sore after Sunday and the fact I have a wedding to go at the weekend. The fact I have the half under my belt can I jump into the program at week 3/4? Also does anyone know the difference between Novice 1 and 2?

I'm hoping to do a few races between now and then, but the Addidas race series doesn't really appeal to me, as I run in the Phoenix park every second day, so if paying for something, just prefer it to be a bit different from what I'm used to. What's worth entering in the next few months that could be fitted into the program

    Thanks

I can't offer any help, just wanted to say I was going to post a very similar question :D So I'll keep an eye on the replies you get!

I also train in the Park but the race series are very different from what you'll see each day. They get a big crowd (some say too big), have a good buzz and are v good value.

If you still don't fancy it, you should find some other races to do over the coming months. The marathon takes a lot of training and races are a nice way to break the grind of an LSR every weekend. There's a link here with info on upcoming races

Given that you have already gone 13 miles at a decent clip and HH Novice 1 doesn't get to 13 miles as an LSR until week 8, Novice 2 might be more suitable for you as it has an LSR of 11 in week 4.
I would assume you are already used to running 3/4 times a week? If so i don't see a problem with joining a programme like that at week 3 or 4.

Well done on the 1st half. What was your time ??

I'm a week behind you doing my 1st this weekend.

I'm planning 2 half's be the end of August with a LSR of 18 miles and then if i'm in shape i'll focus on DCM.

    Hi Wexican,
I also ran the Strawberry half and really enjoyed it. How'd you enjoy it?
It's a great course with excellent views and the weather was great, though got hot towards the end. Pity there was no medals though...
I'd definitely do it again next year.

Another half marathon in the Bogtrotters on the 24th July, the Jim Roche road race festival (16.6 miles) on the 6th of August and the Athlone 3/4 marathon on the 3rd October should provide some good training runs for DCM. I plan on running in the three of these.

50 for a half marathon is steep.........

But the Jim roche race is local and the distance sounds perfect !

Did the half in 1.54. Happy enough considering 4/5 months ago I wouldn't have been able to run for 5 minutes.

Regarding the park races did the great Ireland run in April, and the crowds really put me off.

I'm liking the idea of the kilomarathon on 8th August in Kildare, and maybe the Athlone one early October. I'll probaly try to enter 1/2 5 or 10k between now and the DCM aswell, just to give myself something to look forward to.
