Hi I'm running awhile now but, I don't have a deep understanding of why a certain workout serves a certain purpose. What book would you suggest if any which is technical enough but also remains user friendly?

I run intervals which I've noticed makes me able to run at a higher pace than before, why is that? Is my threshold after being pushed up more? These things are the things I'd like to understand.
    Thanks a lot lads.
