Where would the top gym in the above places be? I will be in DCU but don't want to join the gym there.

There's not a whole lot around...

Westwood in Clontarf/Fairview, The Edge is there too - but it's quite expensive.

Northwood's in Santry, not too far from DCU.

There's the DCC gym in Ballymun as well.

Where are you planning on living?

You could try www.informedperformance.com. There are plenty of DCU students who train there.

Drumcondra really for DCU. I am thinking about joining Westwood in Clontarf as its only two train stops away and it seems like a decent gym.

The only thing is the nearer the better as it will make me go more often.

The Regency hotel on the Swords Road has a gym. I've never been in it so not sure what its like.

There is also a gym in Alsaa , which is on the old airport road and handy to get to by bus from Drumcondra.

The gym in Ballymun Leisure Centre is really good. Huge weight section and pool was never busy when I was there.

Only down side, the opening hours aren't great.

Wouldn't even bother tbh. Got a flyer in thedoor for it a while ago. It's shockingly poor.

Which one, The Regency or Alsaa?

I only ask because I want to join a gym myself, but it has to have a pool (I love swimming for cardio). I'll mainly be using the gym for cardio but if it's got a good enough set of weights for a beginner I can always educate myself and start using them too.

Its more of a leisure club than a gym, if you just want cardio machines and a pool/jacuzzi etc then its fine. A friend of mine is a member there and gets on grand but he's only really interested in the cardio machines, he said there is a free weights section but didn't go into details so I'm no help to you there, its rarely very busy and its clean and kept well according to him. Its relatively inexpensive aswell. I'm sure if you go up they'll give you a tour of the place. But as far as I know its pretty much like a bigger version of a standard hotel gym.

I'd second this. It's a great place to train and one of the coaches there is really cool and everyone thinks he's awesome. Try to guess which one?

If you're interested in training hard and smart we're open to general membership as well as athletes and combat sports.

    I'd recommend IP.

I'd have to second that, LiamHenners257.

IP - 4 big ass safety racks as well as another single stand alone rack, tons of plates and bars, 2 platforms.

edit: Ha, just realised this isn't the "powerlifting gym?" thread. Still though
