I've been unemployed since 2009 like a lot of other people
& I'm trying hard to gain employment of some sort but no
luck yet. What's tormenting me is the amount of jobs I've
applied for through the FAS website without any notification
what so ever! I've sent out c.v's in the post & I've received
the customary standard reply but I suppose it's the times
we're living in. Surely some notification could be placed on the
FAS web site thanking those who applied? I appreciate the time
it would take to answer everyone would be enormous but a little
    courtesy wouldn't go astray.

True, a simple email notification costs nothing.
It's not as if companies needs to send out a stamped addressed envelope anymore like the old days.

My dad is going through the same nuisance, I can't understand why they don't set up a simple automated reply for any entry they get just even to confirm they recieved it.

Having only recently completed interviews with different candidates, I do see your point. But in the past iv received hundreds of CVs for various positions and it can be very awkward replying to each and every single one of them stating if they did/didn't get the position. You get an awful lot of people who seem clueless to even know how to apply for a job - sending no cover letter (not even an email body) sometimes, very poor CVs, no CVs etc. and it wastes even more time.

Not every email system has the ability to automatically reply. Yes, job sites could put up something if they don't already. Yes, businesses should do more to reply but sometimes its just very difficult.

Moving to the Jobs forum anyway, as its not Waterford specific.

I travelled from Galway to Dublin for an interview & even after sending a few e-mails i still have yet to hear if i was successful or not......that was 6 months ago.....but fingers crossed :D That trip cost me €50 and thats €50 i could really do with now.

But i have noticed that companies that advertise vacancys thru Fas seem to be the worst at not replying.

Let's face it, unless you suck at sending emails then you KNOW they received your application, and if you haven't heard anything back then you KNOW it's because you were unsuccessful.

Just move on, there's no sense in creating an issue out of it.

I've sent out c.v's in the post

Why would you post CVs instead of email them? You want your CV to get to them before everyone else's does, not going to happen with snail mail.

To be honest I believe it's too easy to hit the delete button!
If you send it as you say by snail mail well at least it's something in their hands, I know they can usually bin it anyway but in terms of junk mail that comes through your letter box do you bin it without reading it or have a look to see what's on offer?

My boyfriend is in the same position, its a nightmare, he must send his cv by post or email whichever way they requested about 4 times a week and not one have ever got in touch with him to say whether they have received it not. Its really disheartening and especially in these times, i think the employers or FAS should have the decency to just let you know they even received it and will be in contact if suitable. A template of this letter should be made up as to avoid time wasting. Its ridiculous, it has you wondering whether they were even looking for someone in the first place or if the address they gave was incorrect or whatever.

    It really annoys me.
