So Im only getting back into golf after a long absence. I love it, but Im very rusty and my game is *very* up and down [example, this weekend at Carton House [O'Mera course, loved it] I got 27 points off 27 handicap - but took something like 115 [or so] strokes!

I need to [and more importantly, want to ] play more..

But none of my mates play really, and while I'm in a couple of society's, they are 3 or 4 events a year kind of places? I want to be playing once a month, or every couple of weeks?

Im wondering, what do other folks do, in the name of getting a more regular game? Do you find a 'random' society and join it, or join a club and rock up and hope to get some kind of a game with 'strangers'?

I live in the middle of Dublin and don't drive [medical reasons, wont ever drive], so while I don't have loads of options in terms of clubs, there deffo are options north and south of the river which I could get at easily.

leopardstown (5,000 yd par 67) and stepaside (5,800 yard par 74) are both worth a look, both public courses

If you have a GUI handicap you can play open competitions as often as you want. It's a great way of playing cheap competitive golf at a variety of courses.

There's always a great range of options both during the weekend and at weekends. And if you're on your tod you will always find slots available on the timesheets. Some clubs even have online timesheets which makes in very handy. You can find a full list of open events on www.gui.ie
