Thinking bout heading down to wicklow next weekend and trying a few kms over one or two mountains. Can any one recommend some where to park a car for a few hours that would be close to a decent cycle route.

Anywhere around Laragh should be fine, you can try the Glendalough parking as well. All the best climbs around a 20-25kms radius.

Blessington. Always a popular spot with the park and ride gang. Access then to sally gap, wicklow gap and the sleave and shay for good climbing.

Glencormac Inn kilmacanogue, free car park, just a foot of the long hill up to Calary, will will take you to Roundwood/Larargh, or Luggala/SalyGap.

Depends where your coming from really. As I hit the mountains from the direction of the coast, Laragh suits me. If I was coming from west Dublin, I would probably park up in Blessington.

Alternatively, park up on the Wicklow Gap or up over Lough Tay and start your ride with a handy descent. But you might regret it later!

another alternative is Powerscourt Gardens in Enniskerry, large free carpark beside the garden centre.

When you've had a few outings there's a pub in Glenmalure with a carpark. It's at the foot of Shay Elliot & Slieve Mann climbs, both are tough ones.

If you live in Dublin, why not leave the car at home and cycle to Wicklow? do a few climbs, then cycle home? :D
