Hi,I hope I'm posting in the right place.

Anyway, recently I've been realising how much wrong is in the world, like starving children, little or no human rights in some places and war.

I feel like no matter what I do like give to charity etc,I won't make a difference.

I've been feeling really down and depressed because of this, like I'm useless and why should I be allowed this life when others have nothing or how this can be happening and improvements are very little.

Even if I give to charity I feel like I'm not helping, not enough anyway and I'll never be able to.

I don't know what to do,sometimes I think I don't want to live when things like this are happening..any advice really appriciated,I've never felt like this before untill it hit me how bad things really are.

There is nothing wrong with being compassionate. I would suggest educating yourself more in problems that afflict the third world. Giving to charity is virtuous but sometimes you need to know where the money is actually going. For example, I never donate to concern because of the touts they put on city streets - a mate of mine done that for a summer and you wouldn't believe the money he made. If most people knew how much those people made doing that they'd lose all their faith in private charity.

Perhaps you could volunteer? Charity begins at home after all. Get involved in a local charity, such as helping children with mental disabilities. You clearly have the energy, and the goodwill to make a difference, its only a pity there aren't more people in the world like you.

Maybe give your time, charity begins at home and it can show where your money is going.
I bet in your local town they have a Lyons club giving hampers and toys to families and if you are in a city some organization will be giving out soup & sandwiches as you check the streets.

You'll see sides to your area you didn't know existed and because it'll local you'll relate to it more.

Thanks for the replies, yeah maybe if I really get involved I'll feel like I'm making a difference in a way,it won't be much, but I suppose it'll be something.

Hopefully it'll make me feel a bit better.
I read a quote somewhere that said "If you save one life, you save the whole world."

It'll be a start and maybe it'll move on to bigger things.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yeah maybe if I really get involved I'll feel better, like I'm making some kind of difference,it won't be much, but it'll be something.

Just wish I could do something more though, something bigger like life changing but I can't,I think that's why I'm feeling down.

But I have to start somewhere and make my way up to bigger things, making bigger differences,I read a quote somewhere that said "If you save one life, you save the whole world."

I know some charities don't give a whole lot of the donations to the people and I'm not sure if when I sponser a child that I actually am.

Hi op, I'm so glad you wrote this because I'm feeling exactly the same at the moment, just losing faith in the world in general and how terrifying it can be when you think about it.. even a small bit of help or encouragement to people who need it can make huge difference to their world, going to do some volunteering when I can:)

Hi,good to know I'm not the only one. :)

Yeah I just feel like I don't deserve what I have lately and feel so selfish when there are people who have it far worse than me.

I'm going to some volunteering aswell and some fundraising too.
I was thinking of going to the third world to volunteer aswell, hopefully I can make some sort of difference to someone's life.
