    Hi All

I purchased a bluetooth headset for my Iphone3GS. It turns out that only calls work on BT. Anyone know if Apple will be changing this to allow other bluetooth options. Here is a list of what is supported with Apple and what is NOT.

    iPhone Support:

    Hands-Free Profile (HFP)
    Headset Profile (HSP)

    iPhone Does Not Support:

    Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
    Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
    Basic Imaging Profile (BIP)
    Basic Printing Profile (BPP)
    Cordless Telephony Profile (CTP)
    Device ID Profile (DID)
    Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN)
    Fax Profile (FAX)
    File Transfer Profile (FTP)
    General Audio/Video Distribution Profile (GAVDP)
    Generic Access Profile (GAP)
    Generic Object Exchange Profile (GOEP)
    Human Interface Device Profile (HID)
    Intercom Profile (ICP)
    Object Push Profile (OPP)
    Personal Area Networking Profile (PAN)
    Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP)
    Serial Port Profile (SPP)
    Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP)
    SIM Access Profile (SAP,SIM)
    Synchronisation Profile (synch)
    Video Distribution Profile (vdp)
    Wireless Application Protocol Bearer (WAPB).

Some of these might be out of date & may have been update now ???

Why are Apple restricting these bluetooth functions.

Opps my mistake that was old info. How do I connect to the audio. I mainly want to listen to my audio/radio through my headset.
My iphone is jailbroken anyone know if there are apps out there to enable the bluetooth restrictions ?

For me it was easy. I have a bluetooth handsfree kit that also supports A2DP in my car and I just turned bluetooth on, on the iPhone and then searched for available devices through my stereo and it found the iPhone.

Then when listening to the iPod you can select to either play through the iPhone speakers or through the bluetooth device. The same goes for calls. When in a call there is speaker/phone option, and when connected to bluetooth it changes to Speaker/Bluetooth device/phone options.

    go to.
Settings > General > bluetooth and it'll automatically scan and should find the bluetooth device. when it does pair as per the bluetooth devices instructions and then you're good to go.

am actually listening to my ipod on my Blutooth Nokia Stereo headset right now.

And then sysc it to my work, home latops and to handsfree in the car....

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

I use the A2DP all the time.

The only wish I have is to be able to connect to my Poloroid Pogo.

I know its a headset. Look at my OP. Are you sure it does not have A2DP support. Because I had an old Motorola headset on my old Nokia phone and that had A2DP support. I'm sure with this being a newer headset it will be supported ????

its newness doesnt mean a thing. not all bluetooth earpieces are a2dp supported, probably for the reason that an earpeice is for one ear,in mono and as you're supposed to enjoy music in stereo they see no point including it.

you'll need to sell your one and get a stereo bluetooth headphone from this range, if you like sennheiser.

    does that answer your question?

Apple aren't restricting these functions so much as not including them at all. The iPhone bluetooth stack actually doesn't have any of these functions, as far as I know even, it only contains basic headset functionality; only recently did they add actually useful stuff like HID's to allow the use of bluetooth keyboards.

I'm sure they have their reasoning, but its a damn pain.

** I haven't checked the latest iOS4 Docs, but I doubt very much has changed.

The reason a lot of Bluetooth functionality is limitted is actually quiet simple. The majority oh uses that Bluetooth has is for transferring of material that Apple want you to buy from them (music, tones etc). They want sole rights and control over any media that is stored on their phones. Simples.
